My PX-500 works ok in my system (only ok because of Vista issue) When I try to install it on my wifes lappy, Dell I6000 Win XP MCE '05, it locks up when the USB drivers for the card try to install. I have tried disabling just about every hardware dev that I can in both BIOS and Dev Mngr, reinstalled the sprint Con Mngr, tried safe-mode, disabled all startup items through MSCONFIG, and tried many different attempts to get it to install, but always leads to a hard-lock on the system, requiring a hard re-boot. I plan on calling Dell today to see if they have anything to say, as I am suspecting a hardware issue with the PCMCIA slot, or there has got to be a software/driver conflict that is going to require a reinstall.
Anything that anybody can see that I am missing or overlooking here?
TIA |

I am a Mac user occassionaly using XP in Boot Camp and the problem I ran into was trying to update Sprint's Connection Manager. I eventually resolved the problem by switching to my Admin Account to do the install/update. Not sure if I had to switch accounts or just use the admin name and password in the dialog. |

Search up here in the Success/Failure forum, the Dell Inspiron has had problems with just about every PCMCIA EVDO card, except the PC5220 (Verizon only, very old card) or the Sierra AirCard 580 (also older Rev 0 card).
Some had their motherboards replaced on their Dell Inspiron 6000 and had success. If you get yours replaced, please3 report back to this thread. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| I have a better suggestion: Don't buy Dell. They are not the price leaders anymore. |

I am in the process of trying to get Dell to repair an Inspiron 6000 because of lockup problems when using Sprint EVDO cards in the PCMCIA slot. At this point Dell has responded with the following:
| Quote: | It seems that the CardReader that the PC uses (a Ricoh reader) is not
compatible with the Pantech PX500. This may be an issue with the PC Card,
not with the CardReader itself. |
The above is only one response of several emails all saying about the same thing. I see in a posting above Dell installed a new motherboard in at least one Inspiron 6000 that fixed the problem. Can anyone give me help with how to get Dell to repair this problem, phone numbers or email address to a higher level? The laptop is covered by extended warranty. At this point Dell service is stonewalling me. Needless to say I don't recommend buying anymore Dell products. |
