is a Rev A card much faster than Rev 0 with USB tether to a Palm700p with Verizon?

is there any performance or antenna difference between a USB modem and an Expresscard modem...both in rev A?

Does Rev A work with Skype?

tia,

most who have reported bandwidth while tethered, show a max of about 700kbps. i'd say its because the phone's processor and infrastructure were not designed to handle the bandwidth in the first place.

a rev-a card in a rev-a network with good signal, has been shown to record over 2000kbps downloads and 800kbps upload. check out the 'quicklinks' on http://evdomaps.com and see for yourself.

both usb and expresscards can equally deliver maximum evdo bandwidth. no problem with either of them. antennas are readily available for both, as well.

will skype work in rev-a? thats a subjective answer. yes it will work, but most people would say it doesn't work well. i'd say it was OK for light use, but its not a good long term solution. my home dsl connection has ping times less than 50ms. ping times on rev-a vary wildly, and the best i've seen are near 100ms, but its rare you get that low. that increased latency is what hurts voip.

I've gotten @1300/110 per speedtest a few times areound the northeast but in general @300-700 which is liveable with the work that I do.

I will get a Rev A card when I actually see it in my area and then attempt skype.

thanks for the info.

I have tested Rev A with vonage, it worked, but not well. I was only getting about 800kps, but I could hear the person fine. They could only hear static. Crying or Very sad I'm sure things will get better once everywhere is Rev A.

Probably everyone knows this, but Skype also has a Chat function like Instant Messenger that works fine with nearly no bandwidth. You can set up Skype's default behavior to be Chat rather than Call. A good option if speed is an issue.
