By my questons you'll see that I'm new to this EVDO stuff. I have a notebook PC that has an Expresscard slot - no PCMCIA. I also have a need for a wireless network. My first thoughts were to purchase a Sprint or Verizon wireless card. Next I thought it would be good to go with a Rev. A card. First, I'm wondering which has the best coverage network - Sprint or Verizon? Second, I would like to have an Expresscard Slot Rev. A card that would fit into my notebook or a wireless router. Is such a configuration available? I understand that the only way I can use the wireless card software is if it is installed in the notebook - thus the need for the Expresscard configuration. Help! |

there are not any Rev-A expresscards available yet. should be soon.
there are not any routers with expresscard slots. not sure when there will be, i have not heard anyone say they are working on one.
if/when the Rev-A expresscards do come out, we'll test them with the Novatel PCMCIA adapter we have, that works with Rev-0 expresscard. if adapter works, it could allow use of Rev-a expresscard in one of the routers.
for now, your option is to use the Rev-A u720 in a KR1 router... but thats too much of a compromise in my opinion.
best thing to do is sit tight a couple weeks and see what happens! |

Alex,
When an Expresscard slot Rev. A becomes availabe, I could then use it in the notebook and use the VZAccess sw for setup etc. Then perhaps I could use the PCMCIA adaptor and plug it into a wireless router for 802.11g wireless networking along with the EVDO access. Is that correct? |

I'm easily confused, so I'll answer by explaining what we are able to do now, with a Rev-0 expresscard.
We are able to take Verizon's Rev-0 V640 ExpressCard, and have it work inside the Kyocera KR1 Router, by using the Novatel ExpressCard Adapter.
With this setup, the KR1 makes the EVDO bandwidth available for multiple computers to use, either via 802.11 B/G, or via 4 ethernet ports on back of router.
Since we do not yet have the Rev-A version of expresscards, we can't test them in a similar setup, but we expect to be able to do the same, and we expect to be able to share Rev-A speeds through the router, when in a Rev-A coverage area.
Hope that answered your questions? |
