|
|
I have a Sprint Mobile Broadband acct (w Pantech PX-500 card). I would like to also use the card with pcAnywhere to dial into a particular computer. It appears that you can't use the card except with Sprint's Connection manager to hit the net. The computer I need to access is isolated from the net (dialup pcAnywwhere only.)
I have another Sprint Mobile Broadband acct (with a Novatel Merlin 620 card) which works fine with pcAnywhere.
It would seem that I should be able to dial wherever I want... not just Sprint's #777. Suggestions? |

Not entirely true, if you look in the network connections window, there's a dialup entry created for the card. If you click on it and tell it to connect, it'll "dial". If one needed to use the connection manager to get online, all us Linux users wouldn't be able to use the card while booted into Linux (except for the initial setup of the card, of course).
One could theoretically create a new entry using the PX-500 "modem" device and try to dial with the correct number. I assume you've tried something similar with a PCAW connection setup?
This being said...
If I recall correctly, the PX-500 is purely a EVDO/PPP card. While the Merlin 620 can probably act as a circuit-switched modem (I don't have one, so I don't know, exactly), the PX-500 is a much simpler device, and was meant to shuffle IP data around all the time. It just may not be capable of it.

You're absolutely right. The Pantech was simply not capable. If I tried to enter another number I go a 'modem not recognized' error.'
Since then, Sprint has spapped it out for a Merlin S720 and all is good.
Thanks. |
