What do I need to do to get a U720 to work with my Mac? I have an airport and would ideally like to have the modem there so all my computers could share. I've tried to search for this info but haven't found it. I have it currently working on my windows laptop. TIA _________________ Patti B |

If you're referring to an AirPort Base Station ('APBS'... newer ones with USB printer port), that will unfortunately not work. The USB port only talks to printers. Cool idea though. (ok... none of you try uploading the RK1008.bix file onto the APBS now, lol)
The KR1 router could tie into a little network with an APBS, where the KR1 (with local Wifi or Airport service disabled) would allow the U720 to plug into the KR1's 'phone port', provide the Internet connection, and the APBS would let computers connector wirelessly. We have many people doing that right now.
There currently is a performance reduction with the KR1/U720 combo. Most do not realized Internet speeds faster than 500kbps down, because the KR1 really doesn't have any drivers that support the U720. We're told Kyocera is working on them though.
For some 500kbps down may be ok... yet for those fortunate enough to be in a Rev A area, with speeds above 1200kbps down, that lack of compatibility is significant. Also, the point is that the U720 is officially not supported by the KR1, so its fairly hard to call Kyocera support and say, "hi, my U720 doesn't work...". ;]
Because the U720 *does* work in Macs, if you are up to the task, or have a Mac tech at your disposal, there may be some tricky ways to allow the Mac with the U720 to share Internet to the APBS and other machines...the caveat being that the Mac doing the sharing always has to be running. While Booster-Antenna does offer free Mac support with the purchase of a U720, detailed setups like this are beyond that free support (onsite, hands-on setup would be a lot easier). |

| Anyone figured out how to use Apple Mail or Entourage while connected with the u720? I can send and receive mail using Outlook but have not been successful using Apple Mail or Entourage. Using Apple Mail, I can receive mail but can't send it. |

Presuming the U720 has been correctly provisioned (BoosterAntenn.com can do this for you), you merely need to load drivers on your Mac, insert the U720 in a USB port, configure a dialing setting, and click 'Connect'. Booster-Antenna.com tech support can walk you through setup over the phone, but for most folks its really easy following the included instructions. Total install time is five or ten minutes, if that. |

There is nothing about the U720 connection on a Mac that would limit email access. Nor does Sprint block sending email. Mail, Thunderbird, Entourage, etc, all work fine. Check your outgoing email configuration settings (aka SMTP server settings). Set them the same way they are set in Outlook.
For Sprint and Verizon EVDO connections, the second typical hangup is that the email account provider you're attempting to send through doesn't allow you to send from anywhere but THEIR network, it rarely has anything to do with the software you use. Neither Sprint nor Verizon block incoming or outgoing email access. |

Scott is correct. The problem is with the email provider. If you are not on their network, they block port 25 from outside access which is the mail sending port.
In Apple mail you can create multiple smtp servers. Create one for use on your ISP's network and one for use on Sprint's network. You can switch the sending server as appropriate. |

Thank you for all your input. I finally got it to work. I contacted Sprint and we ended up changing my password and it works now.
Thanks again for your input. This site ROCKS! |

For those reading the hijacked email topic info within this thread:
There are many threads elsewhere discussing email settings when using Sprint or Verizon, use Google or our forum's Search function to learn more.
Let's leave the subject for another thread please, but I will leave you with this:
1) Both Sprint and Verizon require setting up an outgoing (SMTP) email sending account before you can use their sending servers (they both require a username/password), but that may not be required if your email account provider allows you to send email from any network.
2) It doesn't matter if you're on a PC or a Mac, or what email client you use, as long as your settings are correct and your sending through a server that ALLOWS you to send, email works great. |

Probably the best ever description of how to use Mac.Intosh's drivers is found on this page. and he reposts the driver url on this page. |
