Good Morning everyone> First thank you for your help.

I currently own the Novatel U720 and I game alot, so I use the #777 feature in the dial up access to be able to play, without being disconnected every 5 minutes on one of my laptops.

My questions are: What exactly does #777 do? Am I being charged anything additional for doing? On sprint end or any end?

Also, I should be receiving the Kyocera KR1 tomorrow to be able to setup a home wireless network. Since I will be using additional computers to connect together and game at the same time with my wife, is there a way to be able to use #777 to be able to game from different machines at the same time and not get disconnected? This is a major worry I have since if you use the connection manager, you really cannot do any gaming.

What's going to be the best way to be able to setup the wireless network using the U720 and the KR1 and avoid the disconnecting problems I am having currently with using the Sprint Connection Manager in gaming?

You will not be charged any additional fees for using the #777 dial in. If you really want to use the connection manager have you updated to the latest firmware and connection manager for the device?

For me and others the latest software released a week or two ago fixed the disconnect while gaming issue, the issue does still creep up for me while using Vent and gaming on a poor signal using a tower with bad upload though, the same thing also happens using #777 though so it is not exclusive to the connection manager for me. The problem no longer occours while gaming alone or using Vent while gaming with a decent signal and a somewhat decent upload.

I have not tried using the device on the KR1 though so cannot comment, as of now the u720 is not even offically supported for the KR1 as you likely know but likely will be in the future.

#777 is the CDMA standard dial string for a PPP packet data call. There is nothing different about it from what a connection manager, windows dial-up connection, or KR1 does. All data connections are established by dialing #777.

That being said, the U720 is not currently compatible with KR1. While it will work to some degree, you will not be able to see the full speed available from the network. Moreover, unless you're playing some MUDs or something, EVDO and gaming don't really work well together.

Oh, I definetely beg to disagree. I've had overwhelming success so far with EVDO gaming compared to my previous Satellite experience. Unfortunately, (well not unfortunately) but this is the only service I have available to me. And it's been so great.

I get currently about 500-700kps down and 130 up with about a 130-300ms ping. I am very happy to have this, coming from what I did.

Anyhow, I really appreciate your feedback so far on this from everyone, thanks again.

Actually Mackie is right as far as gaming goes but it depends on the game. Games like mmorpgs, i.e: EQ, WoW, DAoC and AC work perfectly fine. FPS games do not fare so well unless they use client side detection. I think Mackie just dated himself a little in that most MUDs went away years ago Wink but mmorpgs work the same in many ways. There isn't much out there that won't beat satellite for gaming so that isn't really a fair comparision Wink

Definetely,

I am a EQ2 player and things are so much better with EVDO in comparison with Wildblue. I am so gracious to be away from the service.

I guess just living with that unbearable service for so long makes you appreciate when you have an actual descent connection.
