Yes, I know I'm a luddite running win98se, but I am one of those people who doesn't want to fix things if they're not broken.

Sadly, I'm wondering if this 5220 card will finally force the upgrade to new hardware / software. I know from Google that msgsrv32 lockups are a ubiquitous problem, and that the msgsrv32 part is only a symptom, not the cause.

Here's what I'm seeing with the 5220: Card installed perfectly, and runs perfectly until what appears to be a loss of signal: the card LED goes red, the computer freezes, msgsrv32 stops responding. Forcing msgsrv32's closure then wipes the USB wireless card from the device list along with the two modem entries.

If I don't connect to the evdo service, but just watch the card, I notice that every time the card LED goes red, the control panel device list refreshes itself and the 2 modem entries disappear!

When the card goes green again, the two entries reappear!

It seems that it's no wonder that the computer would freeze: losing a device in the middle of a session would invariably screw up everything.

The computer is a thinkpad 600e, and isn't listed on the compatability list.

Has anybody else run into this 'disappearing modem device' problem?
