|
|
I am considering upgrading my Treo 600 to a Treo 700p primarily for broadband access. I currently use SprintPCS and the BusinessConnect software for email. I have been getting conflicting information from Sprint representatives so I was hoping some people here could give me the low-down. Here are my questions:
1. Email. They are saying that I need to pay $15/mo on top of either PowerVision or DUN options in order to continue to use Business Connect and this comes with 0 SMS messages. This is a huge price jump since currently $15 gets me Business Connect for email as well as unlimited data and unlimited text messages. Any ideas on this?
2. DUN. They are saying that I need to pay the $49 "phone as modem" charge in order to have unlimited use of my Treo as a dialup modem for my laptop. Additionally they say that this is exclusive of PowerVision so if I want PowerVision (TV, music...) I have to pay the per-use fees. Are they really exclusive of each other?
3. PowerVision. As said above, exclusive of DUN... so I would have to pay per-KB charges if I use my phone as a modem if I choose a PowerVision plan. This seems silly... but I think this is the current packaging - can anyone confirm?
4. I don't really use SMS more than a few times a month... but I think Business Connect may use it in the background for push. Would Business Connect still give me unlimited text messages?
5. Goodlink. This service requires my company to support it at the server level, correct? Unforntuately my company does not and will not, which is why I currently use the Business Connect solution. Am I wrong about Goodlink?
6. EV-DO Rev A. Is the Treo 700p Rev A compatible or not?
So I think I would probably use DUN more than PowerVIsion, so if I had to choose I would go that way. But to get corporate email and use of Web on my phone as well as "phone-as-modem", I'm looking at:
$xx for voice minutes
$49 for DUN
$15 for Business Connect
$yy for SMS
Correct?
Any suggestions? Would using solutions like PDANet mean that I could go from $49/mo to $15/mo for PowerVisionAccess? Is that legal?

I'm afraid i can't answer your questions regarding sprint billing, but I will mention something regarding upgrading to the 700p.
There's a part of the installation where it asks you if you want to import software and settings from the previous palm device.
The answer is "NO." unless you like watching a palm go into an infinite reset loop.
This comes from applications or configuration files from the 600 which cause the 700p to crash. I personally have spoken to people who went through three, four, sometimes ten warranty replacements of "defective" treos when it turned out to be bad software. |
