I concur; Sprint has a 1xRTT roaming agreement with both Alltel and Verizon, thus giving near national 1xRTT coverage...so, it's pretty much a "given". |

Adding "Filters" to the various catagories would be nice. If I wanted to only see Sprint RevA for example.
How about a way to add tower locations (GPS location perhaps). Though you might not be able to point out who is on each tower tower, it would be interesting to see.
Also error checking data before posting would be good. I have noticed in one instance that a user reported 1xrtt, when the speeds had to be DO.
Great site. Keep up the good work. |

We have some BIG improvements in filtering and querying the EVDOmaps database to be installed by Monday.
We are very excited about the changes and giving everyone new ways to look at and query EVDOmaps.com
More will be posted after we install the new features. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

|
|
My suggestion for a robot that would fill out your evdo maps database automatically. Snowbirds like me drive our nations highways with a router and EVDO card, plus a laptop with GPS. Why should I have to key in redundant entries into a form when a robot could do it all?
Step 1: Go to Elance.com and get one of the offshore programmer shops to bid on a Java applet with these features:
* Store a user profile ONCE (carrier, EVDO card type, name)
* Applet reads Lat/Long from a GPS connected to a virtual serial port (All the USB and Bluetooth GPS units have this)
* Create a mashup with Google maps, placing a moving marker on the map
* If the position moves more than a mile, then perform a speed test by sending/receiving files to the EVDOmaps website.
* Note the position and speed, then upload the data point to EVDOmaps.com automagically. No typing needed.
Step 2: Allow users to run the dynamic map app in exchange for permitting the continuous logging function.
Step 3: Watch your DB fill up fast with fresh data.
Step 4: Once you have sufficient traffic to constitute a critical mass, then allow free memberships for your customers and those who do substantial logging. All others pay a fee. Google currently charges $20/year for this GPS/map mashup service, but without the EVDO info overlay. |

I don't understand why you MUST enter speeds? I went through a lot of work to plot where I know 1xRTT data exists for Sprint for 3 locations in Minnesota that are NOT on their data maps. A couple locations in northeast minnesota has had sprint 1xrtt coverage for over 2 years, and its still not on their data maps. Yet because I live in the Twin Cities and don't have the speeds readily available my plots have been deleted. 1xRTT... why do you need to know the exact speeds?
For those who travel and are purely interested in having coverage of some sort, I think just using this resource as a place to plot where they know they get coverage is essential, yet you cannot use it in that manner because you need to differentiate between a couple Kbps of speed, which I think to most is unnecessary. We know what range 1xrtt is suppose to be, what Rev0 is suppose to be and what RevA is suppose to be, I think that information should be enough for *required* fields. Preventing people from posting when in that situation I think is going to greatly reduce the potential of the site. |

We need the speeds to make the data more useful and to do some validation.
We have had people enter 1xRTT and getting 800Kbps download speeds.
Just putting a point on the map and saying there is coverage, doesn't allow us to fully utilize the purpose of EVDOmaps. Having equipment used, dBm, upload/download will allow us to do some very cool things with the data in the future. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

It looks like there is a bug in "dBm". If you enter as a positive number vs a negative, it will display correctly.
So for now, just enter the dBm as a positive number. |
This didn't work for me (zip 40324)
dBm shows in the edit screen but not on the map entry |

I have the same problem. I have made a large number of posts, and dBm never shows up. I have tried positive and negative numbers, but both ways nothing shows up at evdomaps.com. This would be worth fixing. _________________ PBX48K650S720? |

Could you please update list of EVDO devices at "Add new EVDOmaps record" page to include new ones, e.g. U727/USB727
Thanks,
Slava |
