Has anyone got the port forwarding feature working for an internal (home-based) machine? Trying to administer a home-based workstatin with no luck on the router, despite having configured port forwarding. Ideas?
TIA.

1:1 NAT setups are generally used when you have multiple public IPs and you wish to assign and route traffic to LAN hosts using one of them. Basic NAT/PAT forwarding is what you're looking for and, all things being equal, should work.

Keep in mind that most remote administration clients use specified port+1. That means that for VNC, for example, you'll need to open port 5900 by default and you'll also need port 5901 to make it all work.

Yep, got that. It's simply that I haven't got it to function with the router. I can surf to the external IP of the router and manage it ok via port 8080, but cannot get to anything I've set up within my LAN via the router...I was just wondering if anyone had tried it with the linksys and had success...

Sure I have gotten it to work with a few ports. I am using port 22 for ssh, port 20+21 for FTP and port 8000 for streaming video/audio. Thats all I have tested so far but they all work great. Also I had a problem with my IP on my internal servers changing so I staticly assign those machines who run services so that I never have to worry about a miss-match with the port fowarding rules. Also dont forget to setup the free DDNS option so you can always fine your IP when it changes.
