|
|
I am seeing poorer download speeds since GPS upgrade and was wondering if my download was somehow corrupted and if anyone else is reporting similar results. My EVDO downs were consistently in the 1000 to 1200 range before and now are 500-700 and 1xrtt was getting consistently +100 now rarely getting above 100. _________________ longtimelurker |

Were you in forced EVDO mode beforehand? I often get lower performance in Auto mode, probably because it's always polling for 1xRTT towers as well. But your performance difference is pretty significant.
It's unfortunate that GPS mode won't work with forced EVDO mode. |

No I am a driver trainer and need auto mode as I am always switching from EVDO to 1xrtt. Oddly enough I am consistently after upgrade getting faster upload results than downloads when on 1xrtt. I had not adjusted my TCP settings but I have experimented recently with no change in typical results. _________________ longtimelurker |

When in any Rev A market after upgrade I am barely getting this. _________________ longtimelurker |

The sad part about it is I dont need GPS as I have the latest GPS locator for Streets and Trips and it works great. I got the 07 version at SAMS for $107.00. The PHAROS locator that comes with it works inside the truck as it needs minimal access to sattelites to acquire them and works quickly and accurately. You can also buy a bluetooth adapter for it for an optimal remote connection. The locator can be used with other trip planning software as well, just download drivers from Streets and Trips disk to whatever trip planning software you are using. _________________ longtimelurker |

| This is why I am always leery of "updates" and "upgrades" when they first are released. Many times they cause more problems than they resolve or degrade performance. Best to wait and let any bugs/issues reveal themselves before taking the plunge. |

| Not only does it seem slower, but my Y cable doesn't seem to work now with the card for some reason. |

| yes, you guys exactly right, i was thinking thats only my card is messing with me, i upraded recently to latest firmware/software and btw connected to Denver Co Evdo rev A. So someone can mark its available there, but the thing is the upload speed is very high indeen , always around 600 kbit, but confusing thing is that download speed never exceded upload speed, max i got was 500 kbit, sometimes it got 100 kbit, even checked it at 4 am, when its suppose more bandwidth. So i'm assuming its cause last uprade, cause i never checked evdo reva anywhere and other software. |

If you right click on connection manager desktop icon then select find target/rightclick FWIdownloads icon it will pull up original firmware installation 1.0something. I wonder if it is possible to return to a previous firmware. probably not as it isn't the rev a firmware. oof _________________ longtimelurker |

I happened to bookmark the previous connection manager link and it still works....
http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/PCS_CM3_Installer_V3.07.006.exe
Try installing the old version then going into the home directory and running this..
NWSoftwareDownloadSprintS720.exe
It might downgrade the card..

I think I'll wait awhile on downgrading to see if the card stabilizes, I'm getting a pretty consistent 1268 down/ 300 up in Las Vegas right now but thanks for the post, it could be handy later. _________________ longtimelurker |

Well, I was adventurous and no it doesn't downgrade the card. it just says it's already up to date. the really annoying thing is my boyfriend has a pantech without an antenna and gets 1200ish down 100 up in this evdo area we are in right now I'd tried my u720 with/without my antenna doesn't matter signal str and it's getting 200k down and 100 up......this is really ticking me off. I've played and defaulted every option you can think of. HA's PRLs and it stays right there...whats really weird is my card shows SID 0 his shows 41xx something...he's playing poker right now don't want to bug him with it again. lol so I'm guessing it's the lovely firmware screwing things up....unless you guys can think of something
frustrated,

I wonder if the upgrade conflicts with certain laptop models? I'm not having any performance issues on a Thinpad T42 after an S720 upgrade.
Might try swapping the device for another at a Sprint store and tell them it is performing well below the marketed range - that you can demonstrate it with a Pantech card next to it.
Might also try installing on another laptop if available. |

| Why in the world would I trade down on a card? You know how hard this card was to find and I need the GPS part that I'm using. Plus they never seem to have the other 720 card, the S720....so I guess I'm just screwed in knowing what the problem is until they release another update....<sigh> |
