Hey Everyone,
A friend of mine told me about this place, so any help is appreciated.
I was gonna see if anyone here can help me with a problem I have.
I have had the PC5740 for 4 months now and it has worked fine. Well, I wanted to try a card that allowed an external antenna hookup, so I was sold the PC5220.
We did the uninstall on the PC5740 and installed the PC5220.
Everything went well, the *228 went through but the card wont keep a connection to the internet. So, we thought we had a bad card, so we uninstalled the PC5220 and reinstalled the PC5740. Now the PC5740 wont work as well.
So far, VZW tech support had done the following.
Checked for driver conflicts (right click on control panel, hardware, device manager)
Deleted Internet connection and manually put in new connection.
Updated VZAccess Manager
Tested the card on another computer-worked fine on other computer (toshiba)
Disabled McAfee Virus/Firewall protection
Uninstalled/Reinstalled software
Now VZW tells me my laptop is bad. I just find it ironic that the PC5740 worked well for me for 4 months now and my computer just happened to die 5 minutes after I did the uninstall/reinstall on the new PC5220. I logged on with the PC5740 5 minutes before I did the uninstall/reinstall.
Thanks again for any help.

ok. lets see if this works.
i was looking at this: us.mcafee.com/common/en-us/redirects/mpfp/userGuide.asp
as you mentioned McAfee Firewall on your computer.
I am guessing you are using Microsoft Windows
Try these steps (perform these at YOUR OWN risk):
1) Remove card from the computer.
2) Remove / Uninstall all the VZW (verizon wireless) software from the computer.
3) Goto your "Program Files" folder and delete the "Verizon Wireless" folder
4) Make sure you delete that folder from your Recycle Bin (RecycleBin keeps the links open, so it is best practice to delete that folder from there)
5) Restart the computer.
6) Re-install VZW software on the computer. Go through the finding card thing
7) Before you connect, goto your Firewall. Goto Internet Applications and make sure "Allow Full Access" is set for your VZW software along with Internet Explorer or whatever browser you use.
8) Also, if that does not work, then reduce your security level to Trusted Security
9) Try connecting and see if you able to get online.
10) If while connecting you get error, call Verizon Wireless and tell them you are using another laptop and you are getting the same problem. See if they can reset your account settings.
I had to go through the same thing. But for me it was baffling that McAfee blocked everything even at Standard Security.
Verizon said they reset my account settings and after that it connected fine. And since then no problems.
P.S. - Also make sure on your VZW software it does not say Extended Network. If it does, that could be the problem. |
