Ok, Here it is as promised:
**Note** To start off make sure you are disconnected and that the connection manager isn't open now:
First Goto C:\Program Files\Novatel Wireless\Sprint\Sprint PCS Connection Manager\ Then find GPSModule.exe and click on it. Should start out like this: Then wait for it to search once it looks like this: Press the Start GPS, But don't click the Establish Data Connection button. It makes it so the connection manager doesn't work and you don't get signal str. etc.
Next Open up Microsoft Streets and Trips:
Goto the GPS pane and Click Configure GPS like this:
Next simply click Scan as you see mine came up on com7,
yours might be different. Click the one that says GPS found and then ok.
Then just click Start GPS and you should end up with a red thing like mine on screen:
After that you can reopen Sprint's Connection manager and connect to the net. Seems as long as you don't close Streets and Trips it recovers if there is a problem. It's on you if you want to Close GPSmodule.exe I do because if you close Streets and Trips you have to do all this again
minus the scanning in streets and trips for the com port.
I was on UScc.net roaming when I did this in Virginia. (shrugs) so I don't know what that means as far as what type of GPS we are using. Maybe you can dig something up. I know I included most of these same instructions in the images, but I figured it would hurt (Some people like me like a visual)
Cheers,
Dimar |

I guess outdoors it would be "real" GPS.
Does this device actually use GPS satellites to calculate its locations?
A: It depends. If you are indoors, then the answer is no – instead, AFLT is used. AFLT uses base station triangulation to calculate your location. If you are outside, then it will use MS-Based GPS and actual satellites are used to determine your location. |

I just tried this and I think it is working. I need to take my laptop out and do some driving around.
I'm using streets and trips 2005 by the way.
I'll come back and post my results sometime |

I was able to make it work with Street Atlas USA 2006 and my S720 card on the busride home today. I hope they open it up so that it sends more data than just position.

I've followed all the above instructions but can't get it to work. I know that GPS does work on my device b/c I've gotten my location before using the location services.
I successfully open the GPSModule and wait for it to say Ready. I then click Start GPS. I'm a little concerned that on the right side it still says Latitude, Longitude: N/A - Is that supposed to happen? I then open Streets and Trips 2007 and successfully scan and find the port for my GPS. On the top left of S&T, it just says Receiving Data instead of showing me my location.
Any ideas? _________________ -Eli |

Well, after reading other posts, it seems the problem was I had my card set on EVDO only, and it must be set to automatic. Thanks to those who posted and helped me out. I just hope that the card continues to work properly. _________________ -Eli |

With the latest version of SCM, all of the above is not needed. The steps to make it work on XP under Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro using a U720 were:
Turn mode to Automatic. The location service dosn't work with EVDO only.
Activate SCM and the GPS portion which now shows in the dialog activates automatically.
Open Streets and Trips and turn on GPS. If necessary select the port. Click the checkbox to show location and bingo, there it is.
So, GPS with the U720 is now working as easily as it does with another GPS device such as the one sold with Streets and Trips or my Bluetooth EMTAC. The big difference being I can now surf while gpsesing. |

Has anyone figure out:
1) how to enable standalone mode
2) what is MS-Assisted, MS-based (official definition)
On Telus/Bell, I only got
$GPGGA,073730.9,00-0.000000,S,00000.000000,E,0,00,0.0,0.0,M,,,,*07
$GPGGA,073734.0,00-0.000000,S,00000.000000,E,0,00,0.0,0.0,M,,,,*0A
after some ollydbg with the firmwareupdater, somehow the GPS port and Diag port (before it was status port only), got created
Anyway I get "GPS session: None", while "GPS Port: COM 7" |
