More specs here..
http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9674644-1.html?tag=cnetfd.mt

It uses Cingular's Edge, which is already outdated technology. No 3G at all. It's not in the ballpark of EVDO.

Amazing Apple would even bother w/out real 3G. And it says Bluetooth but is it 2.0?

Yes, it includes Bluetooth 2.0

More specs can be found here...

This phone has almost everything I've been looking for in a "smart phone" but limiting me to Cingular especially when I recently renewed my contract with Verizon and no 3G is definitely disappointing. They mentioned that the iPhone would work with WiMax but when is that actually due out actually due out?

According to Jobs, they'll add 3g support in the future:

The iPhone won't be shipping until June.

WiMax or Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) ? bit of a difference.

Off the bat don't see what the hype is about. Especially, if you look at how the stock jumped ... like 8%! Jeez investors are really looking for any glimmer of hope in technology.

There are some really impressive things about it.. multitouch, beautiful screen, auto landscape/portrait, autodimmer based on ambient light and full blown multitasking OS.

If it just had HSDPA... and why no SD slot?

Will be interesting to see how open the OS is. Can anyone develop apps for it like for PalmOS and WM5 or will it be as closed as iPod?

The OS looks to be closed for 3rd-party development, probably for security reasons.

Frankly, this device changes the whole equation for me: WiFi support means I could use it with equipment I already have (Verizon Broadband service, via a KPC-650 and KR-1).

So alot of the remaining issues (i.e. the whole "ExpressCard vs PCMCIA vs USB modem" dilemma) are now non-issues, as I can see travelling with the iPhone and my Kyocera mobile router instead, thus enabling the same level of internet access to which I've grown accustomed, leaving my PowerBook at home...

Was reading on one site that they already have 3 g version in the fcc's hands!

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/macworld2007/rumor-3g-iphone-coming-227850.php

the site..

CDMA version.. soon? unlikely but it will happen, well from what they say!

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/macworld2007/gizmodo-iphone-hands-on-part-deux-why-isnt-it-white-and-other-questions-227575.php

the site..

Something else i found interesting was on engadgetmobile

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/01/10/cingular-scheduled-to-rebrand-at-atandt-by-iphone-launch/

"Apple can build [their] devices." dose that mean they can make there own CDMA version?

If I remember correctly, Verizon charges for basic additional services (such as Bluetooth syncing) and so does Sprint (with a vast array of tv and music services).

So, it will be interesting to see if these teles welcome the iPod.

The iPhone is quite interesting and makes my new Palm 700p less appealing.

In a phone interview, Walt Mossberg weighs inon Apple's iPhone, saying the 3.5" high-resolution display makes current PDAs look weak in comparison.

It's actually a lower resolution than my Axim51v & seems to look the most like it...but thinner-pretty nice, can't believe Apple put this all together before others..no SD or mini-SD slot really?

Built in GPS I hear but no evdo...still I'm more impressed with it than the intro of the Ipod..

Then you're not looking for a "smart phone". The iPhone is not being billed as anything approaching a smart phone. Probably the closest existing phone would be an LG Chocolate; phone, MP3 Player, and email/web in one device. The only thing it iPhone has extra is WiFi and an Apple logo, but is woefully short on WWAN. Cinguar's EDGE technology is second generation stuff ... akin to 1XRTT.

If you can afford one of these way overpriced toys, you can certainly afford Verizon's Early Termination Fee.

Apple's exclusive with Cingular would seem to rule out WiMax. Sprint is the company that dumped 3 Billion into WiMax development, and is rolling out two markets as we speak.

If one can see through the glitz and hype this thing just doesn't measure up.
