I called up the 3g store and asked them if they could copy and paste me the contents of the pdf. He told me no he couldn't and that he was sorry. I had to of bought a contract or product from them. To me that is utter bullshit. But apparently now it's free. But before this topic it was no where to be found on the net but yet it was clearly free. Yeah.
Now it is so easy to get this to work it is borderline baby ABC block simple. It took me a TOTAL of under 1 minute. But yet this free pdf that is no where to be found online and none of the data in that pdf either is anywhere to be found until I posted my instructions. Anyways I will help anyone with a U720 device and Google Earth Plus and MS Streets and trips 07. I assure you I am far from "all talk". Apparently a different tune is being sung from the person I talked to at the 3gstore. He would not and did not want to give me any of that data. I asked politely and he told me no. Anyways. You can reach me a jarablue@charter.net for any help with said device/programs. Thanks. |
I was going to ask a question as to why you spend so much time ranting against 3G but then I decided not to.
Businesses have the right to set up their own mode of operation and employees have to follow those rules or risk termination. I have encountered so many people, and even been one myself, who know everything about how some business should operate. Most often these people do not own a sucessful business. The more successful I became the less I worried about other people's business. |

Please let me know when you do so. There are several users I could stand to not have to read posts from.

I dont know if this helps anyone but I have upgraded my software to the latest version and location services has gone away. In order to use GPS I have to:
Set mode to Auto
Close connection manager
Load GPS module from sprint directory
Then start GPS

Using my U720 i also had to set to Auto but the new manager opened the GPS automatically for me so I just opened Streets and Trips and it worked.
Sprint's Location Service works using the menu selection. |

I have downloaded the latest version of the Connection Manager, currently 3.09.013.001 and it is a bit different from the instructions in this post. My GPS will connect however there is no GPS Module in the Sprint Directory. I can see my GPS info, Lat, Long, Speed, etc. displayed in the connection manager but the GPS Port field is empty and I can not detect the GPS from Microsoft Mappoint 2006. Device manager shows com7 as the port used by the novatel device, but pressing scan on mappoint does not detect that com port. Any ideas? Would someone post a copy of the GPS Module program to see if that helps? I have tried this on two laptops with the same results.
Thanks |

Can you be more specific on which "latest SCM version you are now using (exp. SCM 2.5.07)? _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

| mcm8327 wrote: | | Would someone post a copy of the GPS Module program to see if that helps? | I saved GPSModule.exe, Phoenix.exe and Phoenix.tlb from SCM 3.8.0.29; however, when I disconnect SCM, close it and try to run GPSModule.exe, an error window pops up saying "Exception Caught p Unable to create an Object of Phoenix" with just an OK button. The OK button leads to a warning window that "GPSModule MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Debug, Send Error Report, Don't Send"
If you double click Phoenix.exe nithering happens. I get the same results as above if SCM is connected and I try it.
Has any Novatel user been able to use the stand alone GPSModule.exe from SCM3.8.0.29 or earlier while running SCM 3.09.13? _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

I know this thread hasn't been touched in over a year, but I've been looking into some stuff and I was wondering if anyone out there can help me.
I would like to design the following program: (why am I announcing this publicly? Because if anyone beats me to it I would hope they would at the very least give me a free copy)
I am currently using a Dell Inspiron M1210 with a built in webcam, and a Mini PCIe card that I ripped out of a U720, built in to my laptop. Great setup. NDIS is active so when I turn on my computer, within seconds of Vista loading, I have internet connectivity.
But what if my laptop gets stolen? Wouldn't it be cool if there could be a stealth app running the background which would get my GPS coordinates and a picture of whoever is sitting in front of the computer, and upload it to a site of my choosing? Wouldn't that be cool if my computer is stolen, I can go online and see who stole it and where he is sitting?
Now I know that in theory a theif can reformat the computer, but in practive, it doesn't usually happen. And I know there are other companies that have this feature (sort of), but none of them will ever give you the exact GPS coordinates, they will only relay it to the cops, and they usuall charge a lot of money for this service.
And wouldn't it be cool if I could use this same program to integrate with Google Maps and show me a marker of exactly where my computer was every day of the week?
See where I'm getting at? There's a lot to talk about.
Now, here comes the question. I would be willing to work with some of you guys to develop the program. I do some programming in VB and I've already found the code to access the GPS port and get the LAT/LON info, and to access the default webcam and take a picture, although I have not tested them yet.
Before I go about testing these codes, I was checking out the GPS function on the card and noticed a few things. Firstly, if I click "GO" for the GPS and there are currently no sattelites, after a few seconds it stops searching and you must press GO again. This is no good. I need to be able to have it always searching. Another thing is that part of the Sprint Location Based Services is that even if there is no fix, it will give you a triangulation based on the towers, which is very useful info in case the thief is using the computer inside with no available sattelites to give me exact coordinates.
So the two things I need are to keep the GPS searching all the time, and to figure out where the app stores the triangulation data. I couldn't find it in the Sprint directory, and I couldn't find it in the registry under HKLM or HKCU.
So...does anyone care to help me with this? I think if we put together our resources we can come up with a nice app. _________________ -Eli |

So, to give more info on what seems to be my own topic over here, I noticed that if I start the Sprint Connection Manager (it's already connected since I use NDIS) and I click on Location Services in the menu while the GPS is off, it searches for a location via triangulation and then shows me the screen. If I then close that screen and attempt to start the GPS, it will tell me that it aquired a signal but really it's only the triangulation that it aquired. "Great!" I thought, I'm sure it's broadcasting over the serial port those coordinates, but unfortunately, it's not and I still see no way of accessing it. But at least it seems that the GPS will stay on.
Now it aquired 5 satellites but it doesn't seem to be updating the coordinates, and it is still not outputting the proper data via the serial port. It seems like this project will be a lot harder than I thought. _________________ -Eli |

| Is it possible to be online (EVDO) at the same time, while running ##DEBUG AND using GPS at the same time? |
