Just googled for ms-based and ms-assisted and found this...
What is MS-Assisted mode of operation?
In MS-Assisted mode, the network elements calculate the location of the device. This mode is suitable for one-shot fixes, wherein the location does not need to be updated frequently.
What is MS-Based mode of operation?
In MS-Based mode, the network provides the satellite information to the device, based on a rough estimate of where the device is located, and the device acquires the GPS signals from the satellites and calculates its location. After the initial fix, the device operates like an autonomous GPS receiver, until the satellite information must be refreshed, at which time the device goes back to the network to update the satellite information. MS-Based mode is appropriate for applications that require the device location to be updated rapidly, such as a navigation application.
Can my application use both MS-Assisted and MS-Based mode?
Yes. The mode is application dependent, and different features of the same application can use a different mode. For example, in a navigation application, if the user is looking for the nearest restaurant, the location may be acquired via MS-Assisted mode. However, when driving to the restaurant, the location must be updated regularly, so MS-Based mode is more appropriate. |

Wonder if these can be sent in the HyperTerminal program?

If I'm reading that page correctly, that's a list of commands to point a Meade telescope to whatever star or planet one is trying to look at. I didn't see anything specifically for GPS there.

After more thorough testing while in a car, I was not able to get 'speed' to work properly in Streets and Trips with Premium forced on. Although at times after a connect in Premium mode, the speed indicator in S&T will undim, but only for a few minutes. Navigation works great in S&T but not speed or direction.
I haven't been able to find any particular feature with the Premium forced on. It might be new services coming later, not coded yet. |

How to get Internet connection while in ##GPS mode...
The ##GPS mode is finicky. I don't think it's officially released yet. Getting internet connection to work while in this mode takes very specific exact steps...
- From Connection Manager do ##GPS over Go button
- Don't click Start GPS yet!
- Must wait for Card Status to be 'Ready' (must wait for this)
- Click Establish Data Connection
- Must wait for Card Status to be 'Connected' before turning on GPS. If not, click EDC button again until in 'Connected' state.
- NOW you can click the Start GPS button
- Note the Com Port and then you can use a real navigation program and point to that port
So there is a specific order to use this properly. I don't think the ##GPS mode is in releasable state yet, only the LBS services directly from Connection Manager. |

Well, I edited out my mistake -- this seems to be working fine now!
Thanks,

Do any of you gurus think you could whip up a vb script that would take the location (geocode) from the COM port and copy it to the clipboard?
I did a bit of googling and found a few things that came close, but nothing quite right....
I don't really have any application in mind, I just though it would be nice to have the capability.

Hey,
Just so you know I already posted a tutorial of how exactly to use the GPS feature with MS Streets and trips and most likely this would work with any other program that uses GPS. Doesn't seem anybody has been reading that post. lol oh well I suppose.

- Must wait for Card Status to be 'Ready' (must wait for this) | Another very simple way when connected (even in NDIS mode) is to click on a shortcut to the following link:
"C:\Program Files\Novatel Wireless\Sprint\Sprint PCS Connection Manager\GPSModule.exe". Then just click the Start GPS button. _________________ Vista64 & EX720 |

| No there isn't people talk about this and that and MS trips is working ok. I have been on the net for the past 3 hours searching for any pdf or how to get the u720 working with google earth and there is nothing. Not one piece of info here or anywhere. People say it should work and how it should be compatible but nothing specific on Google Earth Plus and how to enable GPS on the u720 to work with it. I have searched everywhere. I don't understand. I really don't want to buy a pdf that is probably 3 lines long. I just want to get this to work. And it isn't. I keep popping up in Australia and the date is 1970? Something isn't right. This is borderline funny that I can't find the instructions on how to do this. |
