I'm normally cautious about "first generation" products, but this looks oh-so-tempting. I don't want to wait for the review--any downside at all? Also, is there a 12V power option or would an inverter be required for mobile use?
Thanks,
Todd/Indy |

I notice you list it as working with the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595U USB card, even though this is not on the supported cards list on the Top Global site.
Did you just plug it in and it worked? |

Eagerly awaiting review, Michael. Hope you have some left if I see no problems reported by users or in the review.

We are working on an in-depth review. This will be a VERY detailed review - probably will take a few weeks
Unfortunately, the MB6800 is sold out, we are trying to find out when our next order will be here. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

| BTW, sorry for the partial cross-post but seemed relevant here - according to Top Global, the MB6800 also works with the AirCard 875U HSDPA card. I'll let you all know when my 6800 arrives next week. |

We should have more MB6800 by the end of next week.
FYI, if you purchased your MB6800 from us and have already taken delivery, email support at 3gstore.com and ask for the latest firmware - a new version has been released. All MB6800s that we ship starting next week will include a CD with the latest firmware. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Great... thanks. Will you receive enough to cover backorders?

|
|
Has anyone who is using an MB6800, or a KR1 for that matter, tried connecting to the USB modem or phone using a USB hub?
I'm sure this will be posted in the full review, but the MB6800 USB port seems not to be powered, or not adequately powered, such that the Sierra Wireless AirCard 595U and 875U USB modems will eventually fully discharge their batteries and shut off. Recharging them requires that they be plugged back in to a PC (or, possibly, other powered USB source).
I'm an 875U user here, and looking for a workaround to allow me to use a router with it, and so hoping that using a powered USB hub in the middle will allow me to supply power to the modem... |

CommSoft, please do tell these fine forum followers,
how long was it taking to kill the device in the router?

Good question. I didn't measure it precisely, but a couple of hours at least, with inconsistent use (i.e. not connected the whole time).
Seems like testing with a USB hub would also be very useful for potentially allowing use of the Y cable with the U720 (which you couldn't do without a USB hub since the MB6800 only has one USB port). |

Interesting update (and good news).
So I went and looked at the specs for the AirCard 875U and 595U (see, e.g., http://www.sierrawireless.com/resources/product/AirCard_875U_Datasheet_web.pdf for the 875U info), and they both require 500mA at 5 volts - in short, a fully powered USB port.
My TabletPC apparently provides the necessary power, but the MB6800 does not. So, this morning I went out to Circuit City and bought a $30 Belkin powered 4 port USB hub to test out.
The router can use the modem just fine through the hub, and after over 3 hours so far, it's still up and running great. Subject to confirmation over a longer period, it seems the MB6800 actually can be used with the AirCard USB cards, but you need to provide additional power to the AirCard through a powered USB hub. (This might also allow you to use the Y-cable with those USB modems that have one, though I'm not sure - curious to see what others find here.)
Assuming it's still up and running tomorrow and fully charging the modem battery, I am going to tell the folks at Top Global about this, and perhaps they will consider upping the power spec on the router, but in any case, for those who want the MB6800 now and prefer Sierra equipment, this seems to be your workaround. |

| Now up and connected continuously for over 8 hours now, I'm calling the powered USB hub solution working. Wahoo! |

| ... which is much longer than the modem would run previously, so consider the powered-hub workaround for using Sierra Wireless USB AirCards with the MB6800 fully confirmed. |

unless you've ever owned a u720 with kr1, i can't imagine you'd have a good answer for this...
but see if you can summarize for the people who will find this thread, what advantage you think the combination of an AC595U, powered USB hub, and TopGlobal MB6800 would have over the U720/KR1 combo?
why would/should anyone dupe your setup over the U720/KR1? |
