However, if I may speculate, the units listed were shipped without the Rev A firmware and thus require the latest upgrade which supplies the firmware upgrade. The post states that you will not be able to use Rev A, assuming you are in an appropriate area with the Rev A ability, if you do not upgrade.

No firmware upgrade, no Rev a.

Many posts ago it was pointed out that many units with Rev A ability where shipped BEFORE the Rev A firmware was available. Thus they would need a firmware upgrade to use Rev A.

Quite true, but the first thing that happens when they go on-line is to tell you there is an update.

My question is more for those of us that already upgraded pre-A cards to the Rev A firmware... Are we also in danger of loosing connectivity if we don't update again before 2/28? I've been hearing that this update is not quite so stable and would rather wait until such issues have been resolved (assuming such issues do exist) before upgrading again. And I would rather skip the upgrade entirely if it doesn't give me any significant improvements in service.

Sprint has just put out information that the 2/28/2007 date required to do the Rev A firmware upgrades has been pushed back to 4/30/2007.

We getting clarification from Sprint for those that fail to do this upgrade (e.g. can they still connect)?

Here is the latest.

Customers in 12 markets (including: Chicago, Charlotte, Hawaii, Knoxville, and others), use Motorola base stations and if customers of PX-500, S720, AC595, fail to upgrade to the newest firmware, they will not be able to connect.

Has something to do with "MFPA Setting", needing to be present and only way to get it, is to upgrade the firmware.

Michael,

Do you know where all of the 12 markets are? I saw on your blog that the upgrade may be Rev A-related, and am hoping that my market is part of the change.

I was wondering if the download that is needed is the one that is mentioned in the first post ....and how can you tell what version you are currently running? and was that for rev a ....ohio was supposed to be updated to rev a by the end of feb....are we gonna have to wait till end of april now?.....

also if you do that update can you force the prl back to 20226 without any conflicts!!? Thanks for the info !!!

That would be really interesting if they don't release the upgrade for the PX-500 before cutting everyone off. Time is running out if this is true.

.....I didn't intend to get off on the wrong foot with this forum with my anger over this issue in some other posts. After reading some more of the posts and info here I find this a truly valuable site and service. It's definitely a lot more helpful than Sprint store reps and most phone-tech reps. My old computer had broke down unexpectedly and I had a lot of deadlines at the time for some online courses I was taking. I had to buy a new computer on the road and ran into all these problems because of Vista/Pantech, missed my deadlines, and lost a lot of sleep. If I need to buy any new products related to mobile connectivity I will look here first.

Hi. I know this may be a silly question, but how do we know which firmware we're running? I just got the service and I've got a Pantech PX500 running WinXP.

Sprint originally planned on doing this upgrade the end of February and then pushed it back to end of April (tonight).

We have a call into our contacts at Sprint to confirm if this is still scheduled for tonight. If it is, it will be interesting to see if this affects anyone.

I'll bet anyone connecting through Chicago/O'hare, who has some time to kill AND they are running old firmware, will not be able to connect, they will get "home" and not have any problems.

Same here - it's still working with the original software that came with my Pantech 500 card.

The Sprint store tech had to downgrade the SCM to the one on the CD after my EVDO simply cut out one morning a nearly two weeks ago. (Much like the stickied thread regarding "Sprint Network Issues".)

Downgrading fixed it but I was concerned it would quit on May 1st. So far, nothing has changed.
