One of the things I really have been looking forward to do for a long time, is to do video streaming and keep on eye on things while away. This can be VERY handy for:
Keeping an eye on the kids while away
Babysitter
Cash Register
Property
Kids in the Pool
your business
your employees
I actually know of someone (second hand), that runs a cash business, and their sales doubled after installing web cams at their business. Every so often, the owner would call in and say, "Steve, is that a new yellow shirt you are wearing today?". The employees would never know when they were being watched. With the portability of a Pocket PC & EVDO, a business owner, could be ANYWHERE and keep an eye on things. Very powerful.
Here are my notes on what I found works and doesn't work.
The D-Link DCS-900W (the one recommended for StompBox) is NOT compatible with Pocket PC Internet Explorer or NetFront 3.1 Tried the Java and ActiveX options. It does work if you look at a snapshot from the camera, but it doesn't update in real-time, you have to refresh.
The Panasonic BL-C10A also does not stream with either Pocket Explorer or NetFront. It does work if you look at a snapshot from the camera, but it doesn't update in real-time, you have to refresh.
The web cameras at EarthCam.com & NetFront 3.1 all seem to stream perfectly with Pocket PC and NetFront 3.1 (tried with Audiovox XV6600). According to their WebCamStore, they use a variety of different products, so it is hard to say which products work - but they DO! We just have to figure out which products.
If anyone knows of other WebCams that stream to Pocket PCs, please post the browser you are using and the camera used on the other end.
I would guess, that NetFront will be the browser of choice, since it seems to have limited Java support.
Does anyone have any experience with ThunderHawk by Bitstream, they appear to have a fully certified Java implementation for their browser - only downside, you have to pay monthly or yearly to use the browser. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I tested an Axis 206M. They're only $350 at Amazon.com and the quality and features can't be beat for the money. _________________ Novatel V620 w/15" Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.3.9 |
