Question for TZ or linuxkidd can I use Ubuntu 7.04 Linux or Fedora Linux or do you recommend one that would be better if I had questions. And any recommendations on packages that I need to download.
Thanks |

I'm setting up under Fedora Core 6 and also on Fedora 7. (Both on x86_64 platform, but I don't think that will make much difference in the end )
During your install on these OS's, make sure to select the Developement packages so that you get needed compilers. While they won't be used to build the KR1 binaries, they may be used to build the KR1 Compile toolchain.
I'm working all this out now, and look forward to posting a full HowTo on establishing a build environment.
tz1 has already been through this process, and I look forward to working with him on the docs.
Thanks,

On my laptop I have Ubuntu, but have the latest Debian on my MacBookPro as an alternate boot, have used RedHat and use Suse at work (and am looking at an eo tufftab with Suse).
All generally work and have everything you need upon installation. At worst, you might have to select a "developer" install to get all of gcc, but I don't remember running into a major distribution without it. |

On my mac homepage, gps100a.bix was posted. Also see HarleyTelem.kmz to see an almost successful test of vehicle data. The OBD test was successful, but I ran off the road and have a bit of a road rash (It missed the last piece, containing the actual crash).
Verizon is at it again with keeping the IP (a good thing) and this version of gps firmware apparently fixes the problem with dyndns too. |

Another example, rpm, colorized by gear (RETMA resistor, 1=brown, 2=red, 3=orange, etc.).

tz1,
Using the latest version of Google Earth I am getting 0,0 for my lat/long when I hit the KR1, but when I download the .kml file it has lat/long data in it. Did GE change the format they read?
This is the .kml file I get when I point Safari to the KR1:
<Document><flyToView>1</flyToView><name>GPS 0. 0</name><LookAt><longitude>-97.056971</longitude>
<latitude>37.077466</latitude>
<range>0</range><tilt>0</tilt><heading>90.000</heading></LookAt><Placemark><Style><IconStyle><Icon><href>root://icons/high_res_places.png</href></Icon></IconStyle></Style><Point><coordinates>-97. 56971,37. 77466</coordinates></Point></Placemark></Document>
If the format did change, I haven't updated my KR1 firmware in a while, so you may have already addressed it.
Thanks much,
Sean |

| Did you tell it to "fly to view" or whatever the checkbox is when you created the network link? The data in Safari should get you there. |

I didn't. I checked that box and it picked up the lat/long (37.077498/-97.056956) and refreshes properly using the set refresh rate, but the icon for the point is at 0 degrees latitude and 97.0 degrees longitude.
What I'd like to do is have the view of the earth stay in one position and watch the pin-points move.
Thanks again,
Sean |

1. Which version of the firmware. Some earlier ones would clip the latitude or longitude so the icon would be wrong there.
2. If you don't have "fly to view" set, the point will move, but you must manually move the map over the point. |

1. I'll have to check this weekend. I'll probably update to your latest version. EDIT: I was using tz6+8b (24 Dec 2006). I just updated to GPS10g.
2. Cool, that's what I was expecting and what it was probably doing, it was just putting the 'x' icon on the equator, but when 'fly to view' was on the view was right, there was just no icon in the view. Edit: as I check GE now, the icon is in the right spot. _________________ -Sean

The new google maps allows searches to include KML files, i.e instead of typing in "bloomington MN", you can type a KML file from a URL and click Search.
On the 8081 server port current.kml mostly doesn't work (I'm looking into it but I suspect I'm updating as it is downloading and I have a 5Hz GPS), but the 5 minute interval kml files do.
Also, the live (http://<ipordns>:8888/x.kml) produces a blue pushpin marker at the location (with a complaint about not being able to display all the details). |
