I tried GPSDrive out before but didn't look at the friend server, but it is probably something simple (and isn't it opensource?).
The MIPS instructions are buried somewhere in the earlier gpsd threads. The fixed unbix/rebix plus the romfsck (that outputs and reconstructs correctly under linux) is available too. Most should be in the kr1 stuff directory off my dot-mac public page. |

Ya. it's all opensource. So, figuring out the internal workings won't be tough at all..
I would recommend though to have a web interface that allows you to set your "Name" on the friend server, as well as the IP / Hostname of the friend server.. ( maybe allowing port specification... although, that's not part of the current implementation of the friend server at all.. )
I'll be getting into this more in the next few days..
Thanks!

| TZ works great on tracking is there any way you could put in a auto delete after so many kmz files it removes one at the same rate it ad's. I leave the router on all the time with the EVDO card active. This way I have faster lock when I drive off. I am working on a server thought to pull the KMZ files. |

Delete is probably the highest priority feature, but it needs to be a smart delete - prefer deleting already downloaded files, or add a download and delete (after send closes properly) page/link, or maintain N logs or a given amount of time.
I'm fighting hardware problems at the moment (some related to recording vehicle module data), and the hard drive in my main development laptop was making evil noises and developed lots of bad sectors. I've backed everything up, but it doesn't help when you can't use it because you've been running spinrite or e2fsck -c all night. |

Hey tz1..
Just had time to catch up on all of the prior GPSd devel threads and such.. I've mirrored all the KR1 stuff from your iDrive and still can't find the modified stuff you spoke of earilier.. ( unbix/rebix, romfsck )
Wondering if you would mind me setting up a KR1 hacking page... thinking CMS like drupal or maybe a wiki ( eh.. ) along with a phpBB forum and SVN.
I'd PM this.. but alas.. I've not made 10 posts yet ( Can I get unlocked Admin? )
tz1, do you use any IM clients? I prefer Jabber ( linuxkidd \at\ linuxkidd \dot\ com is my jabber ID ) I'd like to chat with you about this on a more interactive basis..
Thanks,
LK
*edit: Almost forgot to mention, I've got gps10g.bix firmware running and working great. Using the IOGear GBS301 GPS Bluetooth adapter ( had to jumper pin 7 to pin 8 on the serial output, and switch pins 2 and 3 to plug directly into the adapter... also hadda use a female connector on the USB->RS232 connection ) with a Fortuna Clip-on GPS. _________________ KR1/Sprint S620 |

Any space, mirrors, wiki, etc. would be appreciated.
I'll put up a hacking kit (I thought it was there, it may just not be visible) on my iDisk when I have a chance. My main laptop's hard disk is dying a slow death, and I've been bailing out the data to my MacBookPro (which I have the whole dev environment on too). Since I've had to clean it up anyway, I'll see if I can do an "Instant FixBix" package.
Look for KR1 GPS BIX Utils folder on http://homepage.mac.com/tz1
I already have most things there. I need to create generator scripts for the rest (e.g. the version and build time for webs stuff). Also you may have to be root (or sudo) for unbixing or things that do device nodes (/dev/whatever are special files). |

Thanks,

Everything I post on my dot-mac homepage is GPL (currently v2, to be V3 when it goes live).
I really should add the COPYING file. |

Great...
If you contact me via IM ( all listed in my profile ), I can get SVN setup and an ssh account on my linux box.
Thanks,

From reading tz1's other posts, he appears to have a build environment in Cygwin and on a Mac OS X.
I'm currently working up a Linux based build environment.
Hoping to post some howto documents later.

My build environment is either Linux or MacOSX.
The problem is the KR1's filesystem which I break out contains device nodes and there is no easy way to do these under Cygwin. But the rest of the toolchain works there (http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/ for cygwin info), or I can use colinux or vmware or something on windows machine.
(Or I had a thought about splitting out the inode data from the file so genromfs would split the files and preserve the information).
Since the KR1 is Linux, it is easiest to mirror on Linux, or a Posix unix derivative like MacOSX. |
