|

A few days ago, we got an email form someone asking for some help and we helped them. We really didn't know who they were. They documented this at their blog. His name is Jeff Jarvis and here is the blog entry.
This blog entry is generating more traffic than David Pogue's New York Times article from the previous week.
So, who is this guy? His web site sure gets a TON of traffic. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Looks to be journalist. Here's what I found poking around his blog:
JEFF JARVIS is former TV critic for TV Guide and People, creator of Entertainment Weekly, Sunday editor and associate publisher of the NY Daily News, and a columnist on the San Francisco Examiner. He was until recently president & creative director of Advance.net, the online arm of Advance Publications. Now he is working with The New York Times Company at About.com on content development and strategy and consulting for Advance, Fairchild, and the City University of New York's new Graduate School of Journalism, where he lead the creation of the curriculum for the new media program. He says he is at work on a book. |

He's a semi big deal in the blogisphere, not in the same league as Instapundit, Powerline or Little Green Footballs but fairly well known. He's a lefty but pretty moderate, he's no Michael Moore.
He recently created a big stink about servicing his Dell computer, I really didn't follow it but judging by his ego I would say he probably expected "special service" from Dell and didn't get it. Smartasses seem to be the ones who have problems with Dell.
I think I'll go read about his "problem" and see if I'm right. _________________ Dell M1210 5700 |

Here's a link to the "Dell Hell Saga" as told by Jarvis.
http://www.buzzmachine.com/archives/cat_dell.html
I read the whole thing and it's more than evident his ongoing "outrage" is a result of his attitude rather than any systemic problem with Dell. From the first posting he obviously expected a band of Dell engineers at his house within 20 minutes of his initial call and when it didn't happen he was pissed and it was downhill from there, he was never going to be happy because of that very first experience and at a certain point, he *wanted* the service to remain "bad" so he could continue to be the victim.
I own three Dells, I'm surrounded by Dells at work and family and friends and *no one* has ever had an experience like Jarvis and I'll tell you why. When you contact Dell you are going to go through a "script" with a tech, that tech must follow that script and if you get pissed at that point because of the "unresponsiveness" of the tech to your superior knowledge of your problem, I can guarantee you will hate Dell service because they can fight back in ways that will make you insane.
If you are understanding and cooperative with the tech, you will be amazed at the level of support Dell is capable of, they will bust their butt to take care of your problems. If you come across like a snarky smart ass know it all, you will be in Dell hell. These techs are people and want to be treated just like you do and the Indian techs are especially sensitive to good treatment because of the dipshits like Jarvis who pummel them from the moment they pick up the phone.
Maybe the techs should be more robotic and put up with jerks like Jarvis and give him the same level of support that I get but they are just people with all the human frailty associated with that fact.
Read the whole thing and you decide who the dumbass is. _________________ Dell M1210 5700 |
