|
|
Just wondering if anybody had heard anything about the U720 being Vista capable?
I bought my new laptop with XP (of course) but one of the features of the laptop was that whenever Vista became available it will run it with no problems..
So when Vista is released will the U720 be compatable? Or did I buy new technology that will be outdated in a few months.......again LOL.. |

AN DIEGO, Jan 03, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Novatel Wireless, Inc. (Nasdaq:NVTL), a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, today announced that they, in collaboration with Microsoft, have developed WWAN modem hardware and software drivers that are certified for the Windows Vista operating system. To achieve this critical milestone, Novatel Wireless' products successfully passed a series of stringent tests at Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Laboratories (WHQL).
"Novatel Wireless has worked closely with Microsoft to ensure the best performance and most reliable Windows Vista experience through our diversified line of EV-DO and HSDPA WWAN products," said Slim Souissi, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Novatel Wireless. "Windows Vista WHQL certification gives OEMs, operators and consumers complete confidence that their WWAN investment will be future-proof."
WHQL certification sets a high bar for quality and reliability, and is considered an essential part of the purchase decision by many business and home users. This certification allows Novatel Wireless, as well as its wireless carrier and OEM customers, to display the Certified for Windows Vista logo on retail packages for branded products. The logo assures customers that Novatel Wireless products will provide easy plug-and-play installation when used with the Windows Vista operating system. The WHQL certification also means the Novatel Wireless modules are approved for integration into laptop PCs by manufacturers seeking the Certified for Windows Vista logo for their products. |

Here's a copy of a post I made on another thread:
Here's an interesting page about Vista and how Microsoft will disable your hardware and software whenever it feels like it... Oh, forgive me, I am a died in the wool Machead....
Anyway, it is interesting reading.
A short quote:
"Windows Vista includes an extensive reworking of core OS elements in order to provide content protection for so-called "premium content", typically HD data from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sources. Providing this protection incurs considerable costs in terms of system performance, system stability, technical support overhead, and hardware and software cost. These issues affect not only users of Vista but the entire PC industry, since the effects of the protection measures extend to cover all hardware and software that will ever come into contact with Vista, even if it's not used directly with Vista (for example hardware in a Macintosh computer or on a Linux server)."
It also points out how Vista will disable your hardware if it doesn't comply with DRM or something like that. I wonder if it will disable earlier broadband cards and what price Novatel had to pay for certification. I bet it won't download pirated music and movies!
Also, the site seems to be of a mind that Microsoft is truely invading our computers and taking them over and disabling them when it wants to. |

| The U720 works with all versions of vista EXCEPT 64 bit Vista Ultimate, as I've reported elsewhere. Vista Ultimate requires signed drivers and will not install unsigned drivers that came with the U720 (including the latest downloads from the Sprint site. I've had no word from either Novatel or Sprint about the availability of signed drivers. |

I do not have the slightest idea of how signed drivers work, but would it be possible to insert in the driver the signature from elsewhere? And if so, would this not be a big loophole? I would assume this has been considered. |

When I use the U720 plugged directly into my laptop, I see download speeds of 300 to 500 kbs. If I plug the U720 into a machine running XP, and access the internet on the same laptop using ICS, I see download speeds of 1200 to 1400 kbs. Anyone have a clue as to why this happens?
I used TCP Optimizer to set RWIN the same on both machines.
I am in a EVDO-A area. |

Jack, we appreciate your postings up here - however, can we keep the responses to areas that help people. There have been a few flame wars lately, and we want to keep that from happening up here.
Thanks. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

PLEASE tell me there is news about a Vista x64 bit driver edition.
I traded in my old laptop for a new one and I thought it would have full vista support however it appears that only Vista x32 bit is supported.
Anyone have beta drivers or a work around, I go to Florida for a business trip in 2 days and not having internet on my new awesome laptop (dv9200z CTO) REALLY REALLY SUCKS.
k thanks for any one who knows anything..... at all..... |
