If so could you please play a FPS game and list what the bandwidth rate is? I am thinking about getting EVDO but need to know this information first. I am not concerned with latency as of now because I should soon have Rev A, but I need to know the bandwidth rate (i.e. KB/s used by the game when playing Xbox Live).
The Xbox tech department said most games are between 20 - 25 KB/s, but it took them a while to understand what bandwidth rate was so I just want to confirm their answer.
I am not sure how bandwidth is monitored (is it updated hourly, daily, etc), but if someone could play about an hour (on a FPS game) and post I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks |

Well I called the Xbox tech department again to see if I got the same answer, and to my surprise I did. They said that the max bandwidth rate used by the games (I specifically asked for FPS games) is 25 KB/s, which comes out to 90MB used in an hour.
So for those wanting to use Xbox live with Verizon you can. However, it is better for me because I do not download music or stream videos, therefore I will not need much of the bandwidth for other internet purposes. Also, be careful of Xbox live updates, as some of them are pretty large file sizes.
This will be good for me for the next year, which (now that AT&T and Bellsouth have merged) is when I can get DSL, or until Verizon gets rid of their bandwidth cap! |

| my card plays WoW fine.. Im assuming a MMORPG with 100's of players on at once would use more b/w. I could be wrong tho. |

| I just hooked up to Xbox Live "XL" 2 days ago. The funny thing is Im using dialup internet. I've played only 3 games that have had bad enough lag to have to quit. Thats out of about 20 to 30 rounds of Call of Duty 2. Also Ive played Need for Speed Most Wanted with little or no lag. The only down side is you can't use the headset. Well I haven't tryed it myself though, but Im pretty sure that it would make me lag even more and not be playable. Im getting Sprint mobile broadband next week. I plan on getting the U720. When I get it I will report back here. To inform everyone whether or not it is playable with the headset or not. Also if anyone here wants to know how I hooked my dialup internet to my Xbox, it was easy. First you have to have a computer or laptop with a dialup modem and a network card. Connect a straight-through wire (one that came with your Xbox) to the network card on the computer and the other end to the Xbox. Dial into your IP provider. The company you have your internet through just for someone that dont know what IP is. Make sure to shut off all programs that might use bandwidth and dont forget to shut off any internet accelerators. There you go, XL. Just to inform you too if I can at least play online with dialup on XL then I 99% sure we will be able to with EVDO. Also if you get on XL my gamertag is the same as my name on here. BIGHURT49245, send me a friend invite. |

| The bandwidth is fine. XBox Live won't work so well on an EVDO connection due to the high latency (~200-400 ms). Also, I'd imagine it wouldn't take long to use more then 5GB/mo with XBox Live and it's never good to attract the attention of our cellular overseers... |

As I said earlier Im 99% sure it will work. I played XL for more than 5 hours on my dialup last night and never had to disconnect because of lag. My pings were above 350 in every game also I did try the headset and it worked. So dont tell me EVDO isnt going to work on XL. In a week Im getting EVDO and I will report my findings as soon I can. |

I'm sorry ... You misunderstood my post
I did not say you could not play on EVDO ... You will have considerably higher ping times than other players in your games, but you certainly will be able to connect.
I did say that 350 ping in a FPS is "unplayable IMHO" (In My Humble Opinion) based on the fact that players on cable or DSL will easily ping sub 100's and that puts you at a distinct disadvantage
I have played shooters online for many years and what may be unacceptable to me may be perfectly fine for you ... after all its only my opinion
Enjoy your Xbox Live experience ... Sorry for the misunderstanding |

No prob, I wasn't like getting mad or anything like that, so don't think I was. I was thinking you were saying it wasn't playable. Thats cool. |

Bighurt, I too connect using dial up internet, and currently play COD3 on live. If you play COD3, send me a friend invite, I will play you some in it. Also, let us know how the EVDO works with live, I am wanting to get EVDO when it comes to my area if it works well with live. |

| After patiently waiting for WB to get their act together I too tried out dialup on Xbox Live...and to my surprise it worked like a charm...that pushed me to look into sprint as well...I am only getting 24-26k on dialup...(Rural Illinois) but it worked better than WB has even b4 the infamous firmware downgrade. I just tried Halo2 and it worked awesome...the voice was a no go for me but what ya gonna do! GOW worked pretty well with 4-5 players and more and it gets a bit laggy...good luck in your quest! |

| Gears of War for the xbox 360 played just fine except that I couldn't talk trash over my headset. The people on the other end said my voice would "echo" (jitter). I was able to download the new GOW maps and roster NBA2K7 updates without any major problems. I may try Madden 07 with my PS2 later on. |
