I would recommend letting the XBOX get DHCP if I were you. Lot less problems.
Try changing the XBOX back to DHCP or configuring it with new setting and run the XBOX check again to see what it responds with. |
how do i let xbox get DHCP?..i don't see that option on the xbox screen..
and also, is there a way to avoid the frustration by just buying a linksys modem or router or something?..i already have the linksys wireless card to pick up wireless networks..i'm thinking if i get a router or something at radioshack i could get a network with that..i'm pretty sure i don't know what i'm talking about though..i'd like to avoid that by simply going on xbox live with the sprint sierra compass!..
thanks for your help.. |

If you are looking to purchase a router then I would check out the MBR1000 or the CTR500 from 3gstore.com
To get the XBOX to get DHCP you need to set it to automatic
Take a look the the Windows ICS setup here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
If you follow this it should be pretty simple to get everything setup properly.
You will need to make sure the XBOX is plugged into your PC which I assume you have already done since you got an IP conflict error.
Try those steps and run the XBOX live test again and report your results this should help narrow down your problem a bit. |

ok..one more question..if i buy that router and can get a wireless network..do i even need to deal with the bullshit with the wires and ip addresses?..or will the xbox just pick up the wireless network automatically?..
i appreciate you helping me with my problem..i know it must be frustrating dealing with me but it really is appreciated.. |

The XBOX needs a wireless adapter to pick up wireless but the Cradlepoint CTR500 has one ethernet port and wireless so you could plug your xbox into the ethernet port and make your PC wireless or if you got the MBR1000 it has 4 ethernet ports allowing you to connect up to 4 devices PC/XBOX?Etc. I think they also come with a gaming tip sheet if you buy them from 3gstore which explains how to connect them and get them working plus you get there support also.
PS3 is no easier when it comes to getting all this working. You will still need to use ICS only convenience maybe is that the PS3 has built in wireless.
Also what failure message are you getting now while trying to connect to XBOX Live? |
