I have had Alltel evdo service for about seven months and average 600-800 download and service has been pretty solid. I am using it from a fixed location with amp and antenna. I'm less than 2 miles from tower.
The last week of so I am getting about 100-200 kbps download. I also am going from DO to 1x at times. I contacted Alltel to check on a possible tower issue and was told it was due to holiday traffic. They were not even interested in looking at my particular situation (location, tower, etc.). I was also told with a DO connection average download speed would only be 100-300 kbps. I ask why their website defined their broadband service as 400-700 kbps and was again told that it's the holidays and all broadband service is running much slower.
All in all I felt like Alltel was blowing me off with the holiday slow down answer but maybe there are a lot of people experiencing this? |

Duh!! You just woke up? Need a cup of coffie?
They have been doing this bit since November And I don't think it's just Alltel.
I'm wondering if they have sold Soo many of these cards that too much bandwith is being used to allow the speeds they advertise,or for that matter, why Myself and countless others have all these other connection problems.Gee that made sence Now they have me talking like them!!
Holy Sh!! !!! |

As much as we don't like it, too many users on the tower WILL slow down the speeds you get.
This often happens during business hours and also before people go to work and when they get home.
Test your speeds after midnight and see if they improve.
A similar even occurs with regular telephone lines during an emergency such as hurricane or earthquake when many, many people outside the area try phoning relatives and friends in the emergency area and tie up the phone lines.
There is only so much capacity and providers do NOT provide maximum bandwidth for EVERY customer but for a small percentage of customers assuming that most of them will not be online at the same time. |

| To EVDO Fledgling...and others...this is the way Alltel has been treating their DO potential/customers for a year...see my post of a cpl of days ago...like I said...give away cheap fons but get that 2 yr contract...even most of the "mgrs" of corporate stores & tech talkers at their corporate call centers are really weak...no edumacation & former Radio Shack types...bring back Heath Kits for DO.... |

I have tried testing at many different times during a 24 hr period with the same results so I don't believe it's a capacity issue. I am in a rural area and I find it hard to believe there would be much tower demand around here.
LOL on the heathkits. |
