There has been some discussion up here about Sprint Affiliates. Over the last few years, Sprint has been purchasing Affiliates, so that they are owned by Sprint. Some of the Affiliates sued Sprint when they merged with Nextel, so there is some "bad blood" between Sprint and the Affiliates.
There are still some Sprint Affiliates that are "Sprint", but not Sprint controlled. Areas that are Sprint Affiliates will not have EVDO like other areas and there may be other restrictions. Also, if you try to purchase a card from us from (or others) and request an affiliate area code, Sprint cannot activate in those areas (work around, is to pick a different area code, which doesn't matter for data cards).
The important issue, is that Sprint doesn't control when EVDO Rev 0 or Rev A will be in these areas, the Affiliate does.
If you have a link or can add the cities/states for a specific affiliate, please add to this thread.
Sprint Affiliates
iPCS Inc. - 80 midwestern and eastern markets
portions of Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio and Tennessee.

| I did meet with a representative for IPCS and we talked about EVDO for the Quad Cities area. From what I was told they are going straight to Rev A and it would be available by the end of Q1 in 2007. I'm hoping this is true because I don't want to wait another year or so for Sprint to get EVDO in this area and my only other option is Verizon but I'm not fond of their TOS. |

According to Wikipedia, these are the remaining....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_Nextel
Ubiquitel, iPCS, Shentel, Enterprise, Northern PCS, and Swiftel. I'm pretty sure Ubiquitel was acquired by Sprint sometime this year. iPCS is the largest left and the other three are very small.
Sprint said a month or so ago they don't plan on acquiring iPCS any time soon, that they have better way to spend their resources. Hopefully iPCS comes through with DO by next quarter. |

iPCS offers some EV-DO Rev 0 service in Grand Rapids, MI and Fort Wayne, IN.
The public documents that I Googled only mention the Michigan market. iPCS has not made any public statements within the past year about changing or expanding their EV-DO coverage, AFAIK.
Northern PCS may offer some EV-DO Rev 0 service in Appleton, Wisconsin. I'm not 100% sure about that one. |

| how can I tell if my area is an IPCS area? The Sprint site coverage map list the closet city as being EVDO, and my entire area as a "planned EVDO area"...I take it this is an official Sprint area then? |

Its hard to tell if you live in an affiliate area, the street-level coverage map will tell you though.
Where in Fort Wayne does iPCS have EV-DO? I work in Fort Wayne on a regular basis and never have it available. A lot of times I don't even have good native Sprint service and roam on Verizon. Quite sad considering my small town of 12,000 has it (I admit, I'm in a corporate Sprint market). |

| Ok, my home (and for the most part) the area I would frequently be in is green (Vision) or orange (EVDO obviously)...there are a few grey areas; are these the IPCS networks? If their coverage is really small...I can't wait until Sprint just buys them totally out. |

Are you using the street level maps or the regional maps?
To see affiliate coverage you must zoom in pretty far: http://coverage.sprintpcs.com/IMPACT.jsp
If it is an affiliate area it will say "Signal Strength Not Available."
If you were using the street level maps and it says you have service and gives you a signal strength then you are not in an affiliate area. I would be happy to look if you would like to tell us your zip code as well.

Then you are probably in a corporate Sprint market. |

| Ok, I'm glad...because I'm very strongly considering getting EVDO; dial-up is just not cutting it. |

| Did you verify that EVDO is available? Make sure and check the Power Vision check box for that information. |

the cut-off point for EVDO is about a mile from my house....
On the bigger map, my entire area is listed as a "future EVDO area"...I have been told that these areas will be "lit" by the end of the year.
Either way, even if it's just 1xRTT...130-144K sure beats dial-up. |

Mine is showing in the green and I am in an affiliate market. It dosn't show anything as far as future coverage goes. |
