I'm very excited because I just got working a Novatel V620 running on my Mac OS X (after having activated the card on a PC). However, I use Microsoft VirtualPC to run my corporate apps and connected to my office. When in my Windows XP Pro mode, it seems like it doesn't recognize my successful V620 connection on my OS X.
I know others might not be attempting to do what I'm trying to do but I would greatly appreciate any ideas to get both worlds working.
Thank you,

I'm more familiar with VMWare than Virtual PC, but here are some areas you might want to examine. Virtual PC may have similar networking options to VMWare, in that the Virtual PC may be on the network with host as a peer or it might be using the host's IP address via a NAT and the guest sits in it's own little networking world.
If the former, that may be a problem since the card only provides 1 IP address. You *might* be able to make it work by using the posts here (or on EVDOInfo.com) about configuring your mac laptop for internet connection sharing, but sharing it on whatever network the Virtual PC believes it sits on. Not too familiar with recent mac networking stuff.
If the latter (NAT), it should work well.
If the former, perhaps there's a setting in the Virtual PC settings to choose how networking should be configured and you can make it do the latter?

| Is there a difference in performance of functionality when you use the easy installer for the S620 as aposed to the Terminal hack? |

I'm trying to get my Novatel Merlin S620 card to work.
It has been activated but unfortunately the PC Card menu shows unknown vendor.
I've followed all the steps for the installer and the manual configuration methods but with no luck.
In the System Profiler the following info shows for the inserted PC Card:
pci1033,35:
Function: USB Controller
Vendor: Unknown
Type: CardBus
Vendor ID: 4147
Device ID: 53
I have tried using the above vendor ID and device ID but with no luck.
Please help me get this card working.
I'm running a Powerbook titanium 1Ghz G4, 1G RAM, 60G hard drive.
Running OS X 10.4.3
Thanks! |

Hi
My S620 seems to be working properly. At my home the EDVO tower is not up yet, but in another nearby town the speeds are twice the CDMA I am getting at home (aprox.). I first did the automatic installation...but that did NOT change the vendor and product ID! So then I followed the manual installation procedure, editing the AppleVerizonSupport files to change the ID's as shown in the manual installation procedure. After rebooting, I went back into system network preferences to change the modem...and here is what worked for me: do not use the SPRINT PCS modem selection - use the Verizon V620 selection. When you do that, the Internet Connection dialog will show the potential modem speed at 1.8 mhz but of course that is not your actual connection speed. Mine I am guessing (didn't get to do a speed test yet online) is around 500, which is what I think EDVO should be around. When I try the SprintPCS selection, that seems to be intended for the older CDMA cards.
Good Luck,

Thanks to the developer and ya'll for the driver to install on my Powerbook 17 with OS X 10.4.6. It works and saved me the hassle of the command line etc.
Now I have a Powerbook 17 and a Sony Vaio laptop that can use the card.
Now, I just checked, and I am very very happy. I was having mail sending problems using the wireless in some of the little hotel suites I visit at times. Everything seemed to work except for Apple Mail sending the mail. But Sprint EVDO sends the mail using the S620. It was really frustraing not being apply to reply to some of the emails and the online earthlink mail was not 100% reliable on the send.
Temporarily a happy camper but waiting for 4 Meg broadband since I've been spoiled by Comcast for the last year or so.
Internetfrog timed my Comcast at 4.4 Megs and my S620 at anywhere from .4 to .8 Megs, a 5 to 10x difference.
I started with 300 baud modems, eventually moving up to 56K and then to DSL and then Comcast. I've tethered a Powerbook to a cell phone at 9K and then the Merlin C120 or C320, not sure, at 140K and now using the V620. |
