This thread will discuss the compatibility with the Kyocera KR1 and the Sierra AirCarde 595.

Currently, with RK1008 firmware the AirCard 595 is Not Compatible with the Kyocera KR1

It looks like Kyocera MIGHT be working on compatibility, since the card is recognized in the KR1 (this is huge), BUT performance is dismal and at times doesn't work and there are many many errors written into the log.

For the latest, see our

EVDO Router Comparison Chart

Hey Mackieman, here is what is written into the log, the last line is repeated for a bunch of times.

Quote:

I have the 595 running on a Junxion Box. I also have it running on my 17" Mac laptop. You need the program from Sierra Wireless (Sierra Wireless Watcher Lite).

Because of some quirks in my living situation, I can only get broadband access through EVDO, for both my laptop and desktop. I have the KR1 router and I am using the 5740 card. While the router works wonders, the card is a dinosaur, and doesn't even have an antenna port. I am on a verizon plan so I hope they fix this soon.

Someone please let me know when they do!

it sounds like they are working on making it work,
but what i want to know is that they are working on it or if they will never make it work with the kr1 cause then i can give away my card to someone more deserving than me.

I hope they add support for the Rev A cards soon because I'm waiting until they do so I can buy a Verizon Rev A card and the KR1 router. Maybe they're going to release a KR2 router with Rev A support but whatever they do I hope they do it soon.

Wish I'd known that the KR1 did not yet support Sierra AC595. Got the card on my work account (IT Manager) with unlimited plan, and found out about the KR1 from the carrier's account rep.

(Yes, the VZ Wireless guy told me how to hook up my aircard at home for multiple users -- guess they're not all that animated about the plan agreement huh?)

Except that the KR1 and the AC595 are not cooperating!

Please please god, I hope Kyocera/DLink add support for this card soon! It works about 40% to 65% of the time, but when it decided to quit, it's frustrating as he**!

Only problem is, I can't get any other non-dialup connection at my house, and now my wife and kids will whine to no end if I send back the router! So I'm stuck with the whining when it locks up unitl the MFG supports the card.

I am in the same predicament with the Sierra AC595 Rev.A card from Sprint.

I called Kyocera tech support and could hardly communicate with the level 0.001 tech support rep who answered the phone. Finally, he gave up and gave me another number for their "advanced" tech support, which actually ended up being D-Link level 1 support desk.

You would think that by now Kyocera and/or D-Link would have a standard response protocol related to the AC595 card for techs answering the phone.

After about 30mins, of repeatedly putting me on hold and coming back to ask me to hold again, he finally told me that they are working on it but that he could not help me at the moment. No ETA or anything of the sorts related to the KR1 firmware that supports the new Rev.A Sierra card.

I wonder if anyone has taken a crack at an open source version of the firmware that supports the AC595.

I am not usually a complainer... but this is starting to be ridiculous.

Aircard ac595 is awesome and KR1 is awesome, but not together... I'm in the Houston, TX area and waiting on Kyocera once again... Are they in the business of EVDO support or not, I ask?

Anybody got an email of a VP or higher at Kyocera?

Hello,

RK1010 firmware does NOT support the AirCard 595 or AirCard 595U.

Lots more info at:

Kyocera KR1 Now Supports More EVDO Rev A Devices - EVDOinfo.com

Please note, this may NOT be a firmware issue, but rather a hardware conflict with the AirCard 595 and it probably will never be supported.

RK1010 does add support for:

- Sprint U720
- Verizon USB720
- Verizon PC5750
- Sprint PX-500
- Kyocera KPC680 (not yet released).

So does this router still not support the 595?

I thought the KR1 and the DIR-450 were the same thing. Am I wrong? The DIR-450 supports the 595 for Sprint. Now if they will just allow it to support a Verizon 595.

AirCard 595 is not supported.

Those 2 routers are NOT the same, not the same firmware, not the same hardware. D-Link happens to partner (build) the KR1 for Kyocera, but they are not the same.

So why isn't their a DIR-450 forum? What is the difference between the KR1 and DIR-450 besides the power requirements?
