I have a 5220 that I got right when the Apple software came out originally. over the last 6-12+ months I have only been able to pick up CDMA signal and no EVDO. I can remeber that even when I got EVDO the icon in the menu bar would look like half of the icon was erased. According to the Verizon store I took the card to, it works fine, but I cant remember the last time I went to a Verizon store that had someone that barely know what they were talking about. I have gone from 10.3 to tiger and it is still doing the same thing. Any ideas?

First, check that your zip and make sure you are in an EVDO (BroadbandAccess Area).

Next, update your PRL , if you have never done this, all the new EVDO towers that have gone up, are invisible to your card (if you are running a very old PRL).

After the activation the card is working in EVDO now. After several calls to Data tech support and going to verizon store and they caouldnt tell me that. THey even told me that the card was working fine on there PC and gave it back to me with the old PRL!

i am having problems using my PC 5220 card with my MAc 10.4.1. it keeps saying authentication failed.

what steps did you take to activate your card?

Hold down Option key while clicking on signal strength indicator in menu bar, and you will see an Activate Card menu item

authentication failed messages are often problems on verizon's side. call in 866-788-9387, opt 2, 2, 2, and have them troubleshoot from that end.. if you call this weekend it should be relatively quiet, since lots of folks are on vacation, and therefore not in their offices.

We have seen some problems this last few days with Verizon screwing up ESN numbers, so it is a good idea, see this link for more info:

ya i already checked that possibility actually on the link the info is wrong. on the PC 5220 card the ESN number is listed above the bottom two bar codes. the bottom one has it in hexidecimal (8 digits) and the one above it is in decimal (11 digits). the number below the part number is the serial number.

ESN numbers will soon run out and manufacturers are going to a new number system called MEID (manufactured electronic ID) which will be backwards compatible with ESN numbers and will have 14 digits.

ok think i figured out the problem... its verizon's piss poor customer service and tech support. finally after calling for the 4th time. i got someone who didnt care about what computer i was using. he actually checked my account and found that it hadnt been activated yet. that is the reason it didnt work.

unfortunately since its the weekend and the people working tech support at the switch level are not working this weekend, it wont be until tuesday till its resolved.

so basically it boils down to if you have problems getting it to work, its probably on their end. if you don t get someone that will help you, do what i did and keep calling till you find someone who will. in my case, looks like 4 times is a charm. too bad, verizon is the only game in town. [/code]

just as update. My connect is now working. it only took them overnight to fix it and it ROCKS!!

forgive me for typieng errrors or disjointed thoughts but i am doing this between stop lights in my car. just some numbers for benchmarks.

in my living room 249kbps down 43.5 up
outside my front door 515 and 45.5

driving down I-5 at 65 mph 578 and 89.9

THIS IS SOO COOL!!
