Hi,
Has anyone tried using the U720 with a USB hub as my laptop only has 2 USB ports? I would need 2 for the U720 and 1 to tunnel in to work.

Thanks for your help.

That is a very good question.

For those of you "plug and take cover" types... be careful that any USB hubs or power supplies with USB type A receptacles will not go beyond the power limits of the Novatel Ovation U720.

The U720 is meant to be plugged into a single USB port rated at 5v/500mA. Use of the extender/DC sum cable is intended to raise power to approximately 5v/1000mA. Attempting to 'goose' the power above that may fry your new little toy! Sad

Also be sure to use a USB hub that has its own power supply. Some do not. I've tried one and it fried the primary USB port the hub was plugged into. Ugly.

Which could be a bad thing. Cheap power supplies may leak noise into the U720's radio, lowering signal-to-noise, and lowering performance.

This is a whole new thing folks, so until different methods of plugging the U720 in are experienced and shared here, we're in the dark.

So:

If you use another type of powered extender/DC sum cable, please post details of what you used, what type of computer you have, which of the USB ports you're using, what gains/losses you experienced, etc.

If you use some type of hub, post details of the model number and similar to above, what gains/losses you see.
