I got my S720 on Friday and installed the new Connection Manager on a clean laptop. Downloaded the new Connection Manager and the flashware for the S720. Rebooted. Rev A appeared. Zip 07076.
Good speed.
Tested unupdated KR1 with S720. Slow speed.
Bownloaded the RK1008 .bix file from Novatel. Turned KR! off. Pulled card. Connected CAT5. Logged on and flashed it and reinserted S720. Speed was back up to Rev A standards.
DL speed doubled from 450 to 900. UL speed increased fro 100 to 300-400 or so. Variable.
Success (after a lot of installing and flashing). |

Oops!
Cancel the above. It was the 1.007 firmware.
It did improve my S720 KR1 performance, however. |

They should have it up any day now.
They send us a copy when they have approved it for distribution. If we put it up for everyone to download, it takes a lot of bandwidth - so we make it available for our customers. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

RK1007 killed my KR-1 but Kyrocera was great at giving me a new one next day shipping (or would have been with out a major snow storm) when I got my new one I flashed it to RK1007 and it has been very good since then. Average upload about 200kbps average down is about 1000kps. I am on the edge of a Rev A signal and I am using a s720. I can't wait to try the RK1008 please post it up to the site as of 7am CST 12/13 is not their yet. I will load and test it as soon as it is up.
Thanks. |

| I'm on 1006 with a Verizon KPC650. Working fine. Are there any advantages to upgrading? |

Unless you own a Novetel S720 there is no reason to go up to RK1008.
If you use Sprint an Upgrade to RK1007 might give you some added features or performance as Kyrocera added support for a few new phones and better support for Sprints Data Network used by businesses. Because upgrading firmware can be risky, I would recommend staying with what you have as you do not appear to need the new functionality in the firmware.
I upgraded because I use sprint, have a S720 and am in a Rev A market, With these 3 factors and the RK1008 I am getting consistent Dsl like or better speeds. I average 125 KBps download and about 30-40KBps upload. |

| Scopey - Did you update from RK1007 and notice an improvement or was it from an older firmware? |

I figure I will give you a total history of my setup as it has been getting faster and faster over the past 3 months I have owned it.
I first upgraded my Router from RK1.002 right out of the box to RK1.006 with that firmware I was getting about 200-400 kbps down 60-80 kbps up with the original firmware on my s720 Card. This was in September until the middle of October in Milwaukee, WI.
About the end of October beginning of November Sprint released and updated firmware and connection manager for the s720 to roll out Rev A.
This update increased my speed in the KR-1 to about 300-500 kbps down and about 100kps up.
Then in about mid November Sprint Turned on Rev A in the Milwaukee Area. This resulted in the same 300-500 kbps down but in some cases up to 300 kbps up. There was also a big drop in latency down from about 270ms average down to about 135ms average.
Then the thing I had been waiting for since I purchased my KR-1 was released in the end of November. The new firmware for the KR-1 RK1.007
I flashed my router incorrectly and I ended up bricking it so hard that Kyrocera had to send me a replacement. Fortunately I got it the next day and was able to flash the new one from RK1.006 to RK1.007. As soon as I flashed it I got a great big boost in speed. I now was getting 900-1200 kbps down and 300-400 kbps up, this was great and although there was not specific support for the s720 the router now saw the s720 for what it is rather than a bunch of gobbly gook and the bandwidth issues hobbling it before appeared to be solved. The only problem with the RK1.007 was after about a day or so it would loose its connection and require a reboot. I downloaded over 10 gigs of information with the RK1.007 and the average speed was about 125KBps. The connection speed fluctuates a lot but rarely drops below 90KBps.
I just upgraded to RK1.008 last night. I saw no speed improvement over RK1.007 but the router seems to be more responsive in the firmware screens and the name is showing up properly on the status page. I am on the fringe of EVDO range up north of milwaukee and I am using a booster antenna to improve my signal or else my speed was stuck in the low 600s due to error from signal noise. With the antenna I am getting a much stronger and faster signal.
So in summary,
RK1.006 with s720 slow
Rk1.007 with s720 very fast but unstable
Rk1.008 with s720 very fast but I have not fully tested stability.
I hope this answers your question |

I flashed my KR-1 yesterday with RK 1.008 and had no problem at all. Everthing went fine. I did re-set the unit to default values prior to the flash - as suggested here. Thanks to a fine gentleman from this forum (who kindly emailed me the bix file), I received an early Christmas present of 1.2 down with the S720 in the KR-1!! With RK 1.006 my throughput was 400-500 kpbs down. Thanks man....
I noticed a posting yesterday of someone with error messages in the log file even with RK 1.008 installed and running the S720. Does anyone else have those same errors in the log file?

I just got my KR1 on Friday, 12/15/06. For about 1 day the KR1 was bricked. I was trying to update to the 1008 firmware using IE 7 or Firefox 2.0. I was getting hanging update or an invalid image message ever time.
It was not until I got a computer with IE 6.0 (24 hours later) that I was able to run this update and debrick the KR1.
Everything seems to be running fine now. |
