Does anyone know if the drivers and software for the U720 are built into the device or are they still on a CD? It would be nice if they were built in, I know vonage's usb phone has the drivers built into it. The ability to go from one computer to another without installing anything would be nice.

The U720 is not a USB thumb drive, it is only a USB EVDO modem.

The Windows drivers/setup are included on the CD, or you can download from Sprint.com

I know it's not a thumb drive, but the ability to use it on multiple machines quickly and easily would be nice. I know it's possible, maybe they will implement it on the U820 Smile

FYI, I suggested that to a few companes last year, since it would be an awesome idea to carry everything you need in one device.

All you should need is the card activated and the drivers on a thumb drive. Plug both devices in, and when the new hardware wizard comes up point to the thumb drive for the drivers then build a dun, and update the profile and you should be ready to go.

Or has anyone tried this???

the above poster has a point.. thumb drives are getting smaller and smaller. I carry one of Sandisk's SD cards that also plugs direcly into a USB port in my wallet... its super small + durable. I always have a gig of space to take something with me.

I think the original question was, restated, Why aren't the necessary drivers carried within the U720 on its on ram chip or firmware then you could simply insert the usb connector and the U720 would install the drivers if needed.

I have a 2 Gb Sandisk micro drive and the actual ram chips are probably the size of a thumbnail. There are 4 gig and 8 gig drives available.

No problem with installation on a Mac but haven't tried it under Windows. Maybe something to play with tonight? I guess the question is whether Sprint's install CD can be copied to the usb drive and if so whether or not it will run from it or have to be copied to the laptop drive.
