Hello All,

Thanks to these forums I was able to successfully hook up internet for my mother using a Pantech 500 card to an amp and omni-directional antenna.

I installed a PCI ---> PCMCIA card adapter in the tower

Here was the situation:

She lives in an older mobile home with aluminum siding and a sheet metal roof. According to Sprint's website she lives just on the edge of an EV-DO tower. Inside the trailer you get 0 bars on your cell phone. Outside you get 1-2 bars on a good day. I installed the Pantech in the computer and just with the antenna up, I had a signal of -111db. I put the antenna on the roof (had a magnet, so that was simple) - Ran the cable down to the card as I wanted to see what I could get that way. With just the antenna hooked up, I was at -92db. So I hooked up the amp, and dropped to -72db. I ran speed test from speakeasy and have been getting about 1.1M/128k.

This is quite the difference from 24.4k AOhell. Living in the boonies doesn't offer any options other than dial-up. It takes 25-30min to get to town. It's just hard to believe Sprint has a tower here that can offer those speeds!

Just thought I would share my success!

That's an awesome success story. Those speeds are great.
