| I'm easily confused. To be sure I got this right, the Sprint EX720 card works with the Novatel ExpressCard/34 to PC Card Adapter. But when this combination is used in the KR1 router it works, but . . . . like the U720, it is still limited to 500kbps download speeds. I was confused before about this when I bought my U720 so I wanted to be clear here. |

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Linksys to support the V740 w/PC card adapter so that I'll have a single card I can use in my MacBook Pro and the Linksys 3G router.
Also, I've found a few bugs in the Linksys 3G router's firmware. Anyone know how to report them to Linksys so that they don't fall into a black hole? Anyone know who the product manager is for this product in North America?

Will this adapter work on the PCMCIA slot on any notebook built in the last 2-3 yrs?
Whats the advantage to having this Expresscard vs the PCMCIA? |

its not possible to say that the adapter will definitely work with every laptop made over past 3 years. but so far, it has a great track record.
the reason some folks with pcmcia slots are buying expresscard with adapter, is they expect to be buying a new laptop with expresscard slot during the time of their 2yr contract.
you can read an article on the subject here:
EX720 or V740 in PCMCIA laptop using adapter
there is no evdo speed advantage between expresscard and pcmcia. |

I have successfully used my V740 in a MacBook Pro and PowerBook G4 (with Adapter Card and VZAccess), but have had no luck with my TopGlobal MB8000 using the Novatel Adapter Card that was successful in the G4.
The TopGlobal Web site does not list the V740 as compatible with the MB8000.
Is anyone aware of a solution for using the V740 with the MB8000?
Thanks |

|
|
Hi there,
First excuse me as I don't want to pollute this topic , but I'm actually searching for a Expresscard/34 to PC Card adapter but not for wireless cards. And it is the only adapter of this kind I found.
Have some owners of this adapters tried to use it for other purpose cards, such as storage controller Expresscards?
Or do you know about other references (for Expresscard to PC Card adapter)?
Info would be very useful.
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Alex. |

| Can report that the Express Card adapter and my V740 works excellent with my Thinkpad X60s. Super connectivity. Question though - does anyone know if the Express Card via the Adapter uses less current draw than the USB 720 modem? Per the adapter literature, it draws 740mAh of power but I can't find the current use for the USB. I travel alot so low power is a priority. |

As suggested by Michael and TopGlobal, I check and upgraded my MB8000 firmware to Version 3.05. The V740 is now successful in the MB8000.
The MB8000 is a great product. |

Same question here. I want to use this adaptor with an eSATA II Express card, but Novatel do not know how it will perform. Anyone out there tried it with other express card devices?

On the tests that people have done, are these with the XCA2 or XCA3 adapters? I specifically need to find out if the newer XCA 3 adapter works in the KR1 using the pre-1010 firmware on the KR1. I'm looking at getting a Verizon V740 for laptop and KR1 use, and using the express-card adapter for most of the connections. (I also have a Mac Book Pro which is where I would use the V740 without the XCA.)
Thanks

Just "upgraded" from Sprint Merlin S620 to EX720 with Novatel XCA-3 adapter with mixed success.
Primary reason for upgrade was to move to REV A & be able to use my MacBook Pro which only has an ExpressCard slot --while still being able to use my other two machines Dell Lat D430 and a PowerBook Titanium (both PCMCIA slots only).
Dell Lat D430 w/ Win XP sp2 (and reinstalling latest Sprint Connection Mgr and activating card) worked flawlessly and all is good using the EX720 w/ adapter in PC slot.
MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.10 with EX720 and NO adapter -system automatically recognized card and all is good.
Mac Powerbook Titanium OSX 10.4.10 (non-intel) using EX720 w/adapter problem which I believe is a driver issue, not the adapter issue. Getting power to card fine, OSX recognizes device insertion but says unrecognized manufacturer. (This machine used to work fine with old Merlin S620 PC card). Tried to download WWAN update 1.0 but utility won't run -error says not appropriate for this machine... (I guess cuz it's non-intel).
So close: any idea how to get Powerbook Titanium to recognize card? (Especially since Sprint "doesn't support Macs). Thanks in advance.
==========
UPDATE: It's 5 hours later and I finally got the last of my 3 notebooks -the Mac Powerbook Titanium, working with the EX720.
Even though Sprint does not support Macs, I was able to go to the Sprint website: Business Support Downloads section and download EX720 drivers for the Mac OSX. It's a Mac install package from Novatel called the NovatelWireless_3G-v1_8 package and after I installed that and rebooted, when i put my EX720 w/ XCA-3 PC adapter in, I was able to go into System preferences and configure the newly detected port called "Novatel Wireless CDMA". I'm now able to connect however the menu bar still doesn't know what vendor the card is (says uknown) but it still knows the card is there and will allow me to connect and show the bars and connect time. Performance seems fine as well...
