|

Hi guys,
First off let me start by saying this forum and you guys are great. I've received all my products extremely fast and you've been nothing but helpful. I'm very impressed.
Unfortunately, I am having the same problem with my KR1 router. I called Kyocera tech support as well as your tech lines and after updating all the firmware and changing all the settings it still did the same thing. I would only be able to connect via Wi-Fi for about 30 seconds and then it would disconnect.
You guys went ahead and put in a warranty replacement claim with Kyocera and I got a call from Kelly who told me a new router was on the way.
Well this new one STILL isn't working! This one will stay connected most the time but my speed will continuously jump from 5.5Mbps up to 54Mbps! Even when it's at 54Mbps it works so slowly it takes me a couple minutes just to load a webpage! It will do this even if I'm a foot away from the router and I'm using a 5.5 dBi Wi-Fi Extender Antenna! I also tried the original antenna and it does the same thing as well.
There should be nothing interrupting the signal. We don't have a landline (we use cell phones), any satellite dishes, or anything else around the router. On top of that I have a Wilson trucker antenna mounted on top of my house and running into the back of my Sprint Air-Card 580 and my signal is around 70-75Db.
The router works perfectly when an Ethernet cable is plugged in or when just the EV-DO card is plugged into my laptop. I can connect perfectly to other wireless routers and just for clarification I am experiencing the same problems with my PC downstairs that has a wireless PCI card in it. So it isn't a hardware problem on my end.
This newest router came straight from Kyocera with the RK1006 firmware and I called tech support and changed all the settings again. Still nothing! They said they would send me ANOTHER one and to send this one back! This will be my 3rd KR1! I never received a call from Kelly about sending me this newest router (the 3rd one), and at this point I'm so fed up I would really just like to exchange this for a Linksys router.
Please help! |

Joe, sorry that you are having difficulties. The KR1 is a very rock solid device, we have sold thousands and have many satisfied customers. However, there are some gotchas (PC5220 & VPN).
Even though the Sierra PC5220 has drivers in the KPC650, Kyocera claims that the card has "RF Leakage", which causes WiFi instability and problems. We have had a number of people that actually had problems, so we put the PC5220 on the list of "Don't use with KR1". There are MANY users who do use a PC5220 without a problem, so it isn't all of the cards, just some of them. I don't think it is worth the effort to "try it", so we don't recommend the PC5220 + KR1 combo. See this thread:
Kyocera KR1 & PC5220 - ISSUE
Why am I talking about the PC5220 when you have an AirCard 580. The AirCard 580 is by Sierra, the PC5220 is also by Sierra. If you look closely at the cards, the are almost identical (see below).
So, it may be that some of the AirCard 580s have the exact same problem. I will talk to our lead tech guy Scott and we may move the AirCard 580 until the list of "don't use with a KR1". We would recommend aLinkSys WRT54G3G-ST or Top Global MB6000 router instead for AirCard 580 customers.
I will have someone contact you today to arrange for an exchange.

Wi-Fi packet loss and reduced speed (and even WAN connection drops) due to 'card leakage' with the AC580 are fairly common (discussed in many threads on this site). Look for constant Wi-Fi errors in the KR1's log file too.
We don't see the issue all the time, but often enough.
Interestingly, I spoke with a very good tech that managed a small fleet of AC580 EVDO cards. He literally compared half a dozen or more AC580s in a KR1 back-to-back, monitoring the rate or errors in the KR1's log file and evaluating PING traffic.
They all 'leaked', but some were much worse than others, greatly disrupting Wi-Fi. Some only had a small number of errors and Wi-Fi was ok. |

| Just wanted to say thanks again to both of you. I talked with Scott and I'll be trying the Linksys router. |
