Verizon Wireless Invests in More Than 100 Cell Sites

Quote:
Verizon Wireless, the first national wireless provider to commercially launch high-speed wireless broadband services in the United States, today announced a significant expansion of its high-speed wireless network in Houston with the addition of more than 100 cell sites to the wireless broadband network.

Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) network provides customers with access to V CAST, the nation’s first wireless broadband multimedia service for consumers and BroadbandAccess, the fastest wide-area wireless Internet access service available in the nation.

Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO expanded coverage now includes the greater Houston metroplex, including the communities of Texas City, Sugarland, Conroe and The Woodlands.

“More people than ever before now have access to the latest mobile wireless data and entertainment, making it possible for them to stay connected, informed and entertained via their wireless phones and computers – anywhere, anytime,” said Katherine Greene, region president for Verizon Wireless. “Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to delivering the best wireless network in the nation.”

Verizon Wireless also introduced EV-DO service in Beaumont today bringing the number of Texas cities covered by BroadbandAccess to five. Verizon Wireless first introduced BroadbandAccess to Texas with the launch of Austin in September 2004, expanding to Dallas/Fort Worth in November 2004 and Houston in January 2005. BroadbandAccess was launched in San Antonio earlier this month. V CAST launched in February 2005.
