|
|
There is a new VZAccess Manager update available for Mac OS X.
It appears to be currently available by automated (prompted) download directly from the VZAM interface or by clicking on Check for Updates... under the Help menu to force the update (Verizon's software update page doesn't list it as yet).
The prompt window shows:

Here is a tidbit of info on this update:
We have tested the following Sprint devices and they work with this version of VZAccess for the Mac:
- Novatel U720 (USB EVDO Rev A)
- Pantech PX-500
- Merlin S720
So, read between the lines.... VZAccess is supporting all these EVDO Rev A devices - they must be very close to making some EVDO Rev A announcements.
BTW, for those that use BOTH Verizon and Sprint, update to the latest VZAccess and your latest Sprint cards will show signal strength and easily be able to connect _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

There are actually TWO v3.1.2 VZAccesss Manager upgrade paths: from VZAM v2.3 or prior, intended for the PC Cards/Powerbook G4, and from the VZAM v3.0.1 for the V640/MacBook Pros.
Only the v3.0.1 updated to v3.1.2 provides basic support (no signal level) for the devices mentioned above ^ by Michael. VZAM v3.0.1 can be installed on both G4 Powerbooks and Intel MacBook Pros, since it is universal binary.
Also, while the updater states an upgrade requirement of VZAccess Manager v3.1.1, we have no problem updating from v2.3 or v3.0.1.
In either case, the v3.1.2 is not available separately, and THAT is the part that has the U720 and S720 driver support. |

It appears that this update may no longer be available.
I'll bet that Verizon didn't want to help Sprint out in any way, since this update supports the upcoming V720 USB modem from Verizon (which happens to be the same as the Novatel U720 USB from Sprint), which Sprint doesn't currently offer Mac support.
We hear that this might change in a future Apple Software Update, not sure when that will happen.
See this thread for more info on how Apple supports some EVDO cards natively:

Michael, the V720 tip coming from Verizon is AWESOME! Thanks...but by any chance can you give a rough approximation as to when this might be out? Even narrowing it down to a certain projected quarter would be helpful...
