The Novatel Ovation U720 for Sprint Is Now Shipping

Order With New Sprint Service

Order Without Service (upgrade for existing account)

-----------------------------------------------

This thread will keep you updated on our stock situation of the Novatel U720

We received our first shipment on Wednesday 11/30/2006.

As of Monday 11am CST, the first batch are currently sold - there has been some delays in getting those activated with Sprint. We will be notifying this thread and emailing everyone later today with an update.

We started shipping the U720s today. The bulk of them will ship on Tuesday 12/5. We are receiving another 60 U720s in on Tuesday, so we will have stock again on Tuesday. For those that ordered in the first batch, we expect to ship them over the next day or two.

Currently, we only sell the U720s with service, it takes 24-48 hours to get activation information from Sprint. We provision/activate them BEFORE we ship them. So, there is a day delay before we can ship them.

As soon, as we are out, we will post to this thread. More will be available next week.

We are pretty busy on the phones, if you want one, the fastest way is to order online.

This email was just sent to everyone that has a U720 on order with us

This is to followup from our previous email, letting you know the status of your U720 order.

The ESN issue was resolved yesterday (on Monday).

We started shipping the U720s today (yes, some of you actually got a tracking number), but only a handful of orders came back from Sprint.

Sprint is processing these orders very slowly and some are coming back as "rejected". Part of the problem with Sprint, is that they informed us the $150 service credit for individuals will only be allowed on inventory that ships from Sprint, the $150 service credit for businesses is not affected.

Since there may be an issue with the $150 credit AND Sprint is taking forever to send us activation information, we have decided to have your order ship directly from our Sprint warehouse directly to you. They have 800+ U720s in stock, AND there is no problem with getting the $150 service credit for business OR individual accounts.

All of the backorders our being submitted to our Sprint warehouse today and they will ship directly from Sprint to arrive by Friday of this week.

If you selected Activate for Mac, we are holding your order to see if we can get the u720 working with Mac (see: http://www.evdoforums.com/thread3422.html)

We were trying very hard to get the U720s out, BUT we ran into speedbumps along the way.

Sometimes when you are on the bleeding edge, you get cut.

Thank you for everyone's patience!

FYI, all backorders from us for the U720 started shipping today and the rest will ship on Thursday. They ship via UPS Overnight, so everyone that has ordered one from us wiill have it by Friday.

Also, if you ordered a booster antenna or KR1, those shipped today (Wednesday) to arrive Friday as well. If you paid for overnight shipping, you will be credited, if you selected Ground, you get a free shipping upgrade.

There are a handful of Mac users that we have emailed and have put your order "on hold", until we figure out a way to "get things working" or Apple pushes out an update to support the U720 (we may be emailing a few of you in a day or two).

When you get your U720, it is already programmed, all you have to do is unlock it.

After installing Sprint Connection Manager, do the following:

- click on the Plus Sign
- click on the padlock
- enter either the last 4 of your SSN, Federal Tax ID or last 4 of your business phone number to unlock the modem

You are now ready to use.

More detail on unlocking:

The U720s are shipping directly from Sprint. They are activated and provisioned, yet LOCKED. See information here: Sprint Connection Card User Lock Code.

You will need to install the Sprint PCS Connection Manager software first. I would recommend rebooting, even if you are not prompted to.

Once back at the Windows desktop, insert your U720 into a USB port before running the Sprint PCS Connection Manager software. We suggest that you make a habit of using one specific USB port with the Ovation U720, rather than moving your U720 from port to port.

The device's green power LED will flash once or twice then turn on solid.

Let Windows detect the hardware and load drivers. Typically a small window pops up indicating the the hardware was successfully installed and is ready for use.

Run the Sprint PCS Connection Manager software.

Click the small '+' button on the left of the interface to expand (drop) the info pane.

Click the lock icon on the right side of the drop-down pane.

Enter your Lock Code.

For individual accounts, this is the last four or your SSN. For corporate accounts, this is typically 6285. We have had reports of cards for corporate accounts locked with the last four numbers of the EIN, or even the last four numbers of a contact telephone number.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR MACS

Customers using Mac OS X cannot unlock the U720. Nor can you activate, provision or update the card in a Mac.

Currently there is no Sprint-supported drivers for the Mac, counter to what was originally reported. Rather than native support from within OS 10.4.8, as was reported to us by Sprint, the driver "support" on our test platform stemmed from Verizon's VZAccess Manager having been loaded as well. We are still pursuing resources of working drivers, so stay tuned.
