I brought my laptop to work with me this morning to test speed from home, along with speeds here at the office directly with the U 720 in the USB Port (WHAT'S THIS Y thing?)
I work inside the loop in Houston, Texas, which should obviously have nice speeds here, and I am still getting the exact same type of speeds.
I actually got worse speeds here at the office:
Sorry, posting this from my work PC, so no direct links, but:

| What's the likelihood of U720 will be fully supported by KR1? I really like to have a USB device instead of a PC Card. But my 30 days is coming to an end soon and I need to decide whether to switch to a S720 or stay with U720 and hope that new firmware will add support to it. |

I personally have started to have some pretty major compatability issues with setting up the the wireless network from the KR1 with the U720.
If drops sporadically, and I have all bars. Sitting between -74 and -78 dbm strength.
I reverted back to the original firmware that was included and hoping I stay stable until another firmwar upgrade to fix it. It's very annoying with the cap speed around 490kb down and 140 up. |

| Any word on the status of the KR1 becoming able to fully support the U720? |

Bump. I've got a little over a week left in my 30day trial period. At this rate, it looks like I'll be canceling service and starting over with an S720.
The U720 is a fast little device. Especially for us without PC Card slots. |

OK, lemme say to answer your question "NO", but....
I've got the U720 and I also have the Kyrocera KR1. It can be made compatible, with no issues.
I originally had a little problem with using the Kyrocera my Wireless Access Point. I would get the "red light" and all that mess. I was having big issues.
What I did was run out at by a Linksys WRT54GS and disable the wireless from the KYROCERA and use the Linksys as my WIFI router. I also reverted back to the original firmware version and have not updated the firmware. I believe.... something ending in 002 or something. The original version of the firmware.
100% no issues since then. I have not had a drop since I did this. No issue with connectivity or dropping, or anything.
The ONLY issue I've had so far is the Down/Up speeds. Upload capping at 140KBS and the downloading capping at 490KBS.
Other than the speed barriers, I've had no other issues.
Eventually, with the release of verizon's USB720, you have to assume there will be a nice compatibility firmware released soon. |

This is the issue I was inquiring about. I have Sprint's U720 as well as a PC5740 through Alltel. I'll switch completely to Sprint once the U720 is supported since Sprint's Rev A will be available here LONG before Alltel's so I was just checking to see if there's any new word on it.
I've never had any kind of problems with connectivity or anything else with the KR1. But until there is support for the U720 it will only work at the speeds you mentioned. I'm thinking it might not be too long. I know they're working on it as of a few weeks ago just hadn't heard anything since then.
Thanks for your reply though! |

Just checking again to see if there's an ETA on the KR1 fully supporting the U720. |

I have the U720 and the KR1 and did extensive testing of speed before I got the Router and after.
Im in the REV A. area and get excellent reception.
With the U720 directly into my home pc(the only place I use it) I was getting on average 1300KBPS download and 800KBPS upload with ping times around 110ms.
Then I got the router and did many more speed tests from the same location and now Im getting 490KBPS download and 400KBPS upload with the same ping times anywhere from 80 to 160. Sometimes the upload speeds exceed the download speeds. So yes the kr1 is a speed killler. I dont know if it can be fixed by firmware but I thought its capable of 2.4kbps.
My other point is even though its less than half the directly plugged in speed I dont really notice to much of a speed difference. Benchmarks are great and all but web pages still load extremely fast and pictures. Besides that you can only download as much as the server your downloading from can send it which for me is usually between 50 and 100kbps. So Im going to be all for getting my fast speeds back for bragging rights but I dont think it should hinder anyone from buying this router and the u720. And I share the router with 3 computers and they all get around 500kbps no matter what were each doing. Thats my opinion.
Only other problem is yes it disconnects maybe once every 24 hours and you have to pull the plug.
And my problem with the U720 is it wont allow you to host computer games. Even on old games when you host it will disconnect you every time. AOE III for example when you search for games it disconnects. You can only join games through gamespy arcade or what have you. It has nothing to do with the kr1 since it happens with the U720 directly plugged. It also happens when its plugged into the router obviously. Just kind of sucks and is annoying. |

| I can play AOE III just fine with my u720!!!!!!!!!!! I do not need to use gamespy. For AOEIII you can not have the connection manager running. I am not at home but I think the mode is called nisi in the connection manager. It is the mode that makes the modem connect by itself when you turn on your computer. |

The mode is ndis mode. It sets the usb modem up to have a network port just like a wireless or standard ethernet within windows. You just plug in the card, it connects and you are good to go. _________________ --

Ok i got that to work now thanks.
Heres something strange I can get it to work with my K1 if I first connect with sprint NDIS then disconnect, plug the U720 back into my router, then connect with the router. Then all the computers on the network can play any game. Just kind of annoying wish there was a way to just fix it once and for all. Thanks, Dan |
