Yeah...don't hold your breath for the 30 days thing. We'll try to get it out as quickly as possible but previous history tells us that there is often a series of issues to tackle before a public release is made. However, history also tells us that when a device is certified to work with KR1, it usually works pretty well. |

Can anyone point me to a link where this Kyocera EV enabled Phone that can be tethered to the USB port can be found? This is exactly what I've been looking for.

Hello Folks,
Just wanted to post my experiences so far. Last night I received my KR1 and hooked up the Novatel U 720 to it.
Did NOT install any additional firmare of anything else. Just plugged in the U 720, did the basic installation of the router, and it's working flawlessly. There is no issue at all with the Novatel U 720 and the KR1. It's working great.
People were saying that's there's a decrease in speed. I am not in REV A area, so I cannot really say how it's affected me, but I can say that I am getting exact same speeds when connected only through the U 720.

not to rain on your parade but thos numbers look pretty weak. You are only getting 400 down but yet 100+ up on the u720 directly connected? There are also some erratic pings in there. Your speeds are on the bottom side of typical and are more in line with what other users are reporting as current problems with the KR1 and the u720 currently, hence degraded speed and latency issues.
Just as an example in most areas in KY, VA, TN and OH I have had a chance to test the u720 in Rev 0 I am yet to see downloads less than 800. In fact at home I have never tested below 1.3 down. If you're sure you are getting those same speeds w/o the KR1 and you are in a good signal area then I highly reccomend reading the thread on DATA tuning and how to set the device to different HA's. |

Which is what the first post of this thread states:
| Quote: | | We are not seeing full speed, the top speed is 450Kbps - 500kbps |
For some, this is going to be WAY better than dial-up and be just fine. In our testing, it was limited to those speeds, when we plugged the U720 into our laptop, we would see a 2X speed increase (BUT it depends on your area and many other factors). _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Hey semi75,
Can you post a link to that thread?
I did a search for " data tuning" and could not find it.
I live in central ohio and am seeing the same results on my d/l and upload speeds. I'm not in rev. A, but should be getting better download speeds.
thanks,
Jason |

| if the numbers he gets are the same with or without the KR1, maybe its time for an antenna or amp or both... |

I definetly have to agree with Alex, the first thing to do is to determine what your signal reading is if you are getting those speeds directly connected and through the KR1 both. As stated many times here the KR1 is a nice router and will work with the u720 the firmware just isn't available to fully support it yet. Normally I've noticed when in a weak signal area though my download suffers but my upload also suffers, hence I am wondering why you still have a good upload for Rev 0.
I don't want to get too far off topic but the data tuning thread is here:
http://www.evdoforums.com/thread2001.html
In a poor signal areas I was able to lower latency about 60 ms and now that the tower nearest my house has been upgraded to EVDO testing different HA's yielded an incredible 100ms boost on average and about 300kbs dload and 20kbs upload. Those are incredible results, the Atlanta HA's and NJ's HA's were seeing pings that rarely dropped below 250-320 for me while the IN and Chicago HAs range 134-170 now. Heck it seems like I enjoy tinkering with this and getting the most I can out of the service than I do actually using it lately. There likely is something to be said for being perfectly happy with 400kbs downloads. |

I am sorry, maybe this is posted somewhere.
I can easily find the strength when using the U 720 directly and using the connection form using the connection manager
How do I find the strength when the U 720 is plugged directly into the KR1. I've looked through the webbased menus, though I cannot find it. |

You're right, the KR1 gives a bar strength, but not a signal strength in numbers.
What I was asking about though, wasn't actually signal strength.
What I was curious about is the comparison of speeds for when you use U720 directly in your PC, vs. when you have it in the KR1.
I didn't see where you noted which speed test was which, and thought maybe all of those test results you posted, were with u720 in router. Is that right?
When you do have the U720 in PC, get the signal strength reading via the connection manager, and tell us what the reading is when you post comparative speed results. |

Yes, tested with U 720 in the router.
I've tested both ways, I get the same speeds when tested U 720 in the direct PC. I will run tests again tonight and post for confirmation of signal strength reading from Connection Manager.
EDIT ADD:
I wanted to also, without changing the subject ask about my Primary HA and secondary HA. I live in Houston, any suggestions to what these should be set up to? Maybe that will boost my speeds.
Thanks |

OK, I cannot find the ability to change the HA or PA in the U 720. Can someone please PM me how I can change these things?
I dunno why I cannot find it |

don't go the HA route just yet. thats a fine-tuning tweak, and i don't think you're at that stage in the game yet.
do the speedtest with u720 in PC, with and without Y cable. give us signal strength readings in dbm, as well.
if you really are getting speeds that low in the PC, then i go back to my original comment, that it may be time for an antenna and/or amp.
the u720 is a top performer. it commonly gets 800-1200kbps on Rev-0 networks, so long as you've got good/great signal. |
