After reading through the pages it seems to me that the V620 is the best out of the box, but that the 5220 may be better after tweaking.

Askig for a poll, based on what you know today - what card would you get?

I haven't tweaked my 5220 at all and it's pulling down 1.4mb. I've found several websites with hyper-tweaking information. I'll fiddle with them soon enough but for now, the 5220 rocks.

I ordered my card on Friday through Verizon and received it the following Monday. I had to wait to activate it until today because FedEx beat Verizon and delivered it a day early. Installation/activation is simple and quick.

I can't comment on the novatel card but I'm very happy with the 5220.

LOL, wow! EVDO is only 1.5mb to the tower, you must live about a foot from the base Smile

I work in a telecom corridor in Richardson near Dallas. We have tons of every imaginable type of RF signal. In fact, we have no stray animals, no birds, and my hair is totally grey. Coincidence? Rolling Eyes

Well, having had both, I would suggest the V620 for several reasons. The V620 has no flap antenna which can be a serious consideration if your PC slot is near the keyboard as mine is.

The software is definitely nextgen. It offers three ways to access the internet, broadband, wireless dialup and Quick 2 Net 14.4 access. Also it has text capability which the 5220 doesn't have.

The software also set my RWIN value at a respectable 62480 rather than the 17,500 of the 5220. True, the RWIN can be user adjusted but it was nice they've made the adjustment for the user.

I have to think the card itself is a bit further down the evolutionary road because of the antenna if nothing else. I'm getting almost twice the speed with the V620 but I think the RWIN value has a lot to do with that.

If EVDO is only 1500K to the tower, how can someone be selling an EVDO card that can get 3000K?

Test results that are deceptive and not entirely accurate. Read this URL for an explanation:

You tested 1X instead of EV-DO, here's the same test tonight on the same servers using EVDO, first up is Toast...

Seconds later, dslreports...

This is pretty common, I get better readings at dslreports and both of these test are without Venturi.

...and in totally unrelated news, look who yo daddy is ! Very Happy
