Can anyone help me with this selection of hardware and configuration?
I already have the Notebook and FreeBSD running. v6.2 PreRelease
My VAIO: http://www.transmetazone.com/articl...?articleID=1056
Has PCcard slot. I have WiFi capability now.
I was hoping I would not have to purchase additional hardware like the KR1 I have been reading about. Is that my only option for the moment?
I tried loading the Sprint Connection Manager on my desktop (no evdo card) under WineHQ.com emulation but the install "canceled" itself about 7 steps into the install.
(I am partial to Sprint because I currently have a Nextel phone and I will be able to trade accounts over to Sprint without having to pay for the "early out" $200 fee.) I only need to purchase the PCCard.

I couldn't get Ubuntu going with my Verizon KPC650 - Dapper or Edgy. And those have WAY better support than FreeBSD.
I ended up with a KR1 and am loving it. For starters I'm able to move the relatively high powered RF transmitter from it's normal perch about 6" away from "Captain Happy And His Two Accomplices"...it's worth it for that alone, not having "the guys" mutate any more than they normally would...
I run Ethernet straight from the KR1 to Ubuntu laptop, sharing the WiFi with fellow political activists on the road when necessary.
Trust me man, just do a KR1 and don't even sweat drivers. |
