Got it recently and im lovin it. Ive had the S720 for a while now and recently added the Linkysys. Im currently in Rev. 0 only coverage, (Orlando) but I have heard rumors 1Q 2007 for Rev. A. Ping times to google.com are in the ~250ms compared to ~50ms from my neighbors cable connection. My HA's on the card have me back hauled out of sl-gw23-atl which is the closest gateway I could find. But thats about the worst thing I can say about it, other than that the service rocks. Bottom line it seems to be stable and reliable, some applications do suffer from the latency but overall they work well. My work VPN client works fine, no issues there. Streaming radio works good, as well as low bandwidth (less than 300kbps) video streams. I Havent tested any games like Quake or something like that yet but I expect they are a bit laggy, but playable. I'll test Quake soon. I am giving it a B+ grade. =)
pros:
Easy to setup.
NO new wiring, except the wall wart power supply & EVDO antenna.
802.11g wifi support is crutial.
4 10/100 FastEthernet ports for uplink into my existing wired ethernet.
cons:
Ping times are high ~250ms.

I have to second this thread. However, I give the Linksys an A+ since
I would have never thought something so complicated(networking) could be so darn easy.
I got my Linksys router yesterday, best money I every spent.
Benifits:
- 4 wired lan connections
- sprint s620 went right in and worked from the word "connect"
- my dell laptop hookup to the wireless G was a snap.
- This thing took 5 mins(not exagarating) to setup my whole network.
- Don't worry about throwing it away, because if you get lucky and get wired service in your area this router can be connected to a DSL or cable modem(sweet future benifit)
- I saw NO latency or connection diff than having the card directly in my PC.
My setup: s620, waiting on my s720( backordered:( ), windows xp pro,
CA-819 amp kit hooked to yagi on my roof.
They just turned on evdo in my area, I am getting a solid 1.2meg down and 130kb up even through the router setup. I just checked my mother's cheep DSL and I am running 2x faster on the sprint evdo and 2x less on the up. Not to shabby.
If you want this router I suggest ordering from
Booster-Antenna.com. They are THE SAME PRICE AS SPRINT and it is THE SAME ROUTER. What's the diff? CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Buy from Booster-Antenna.com, you won't go wrong. |
