|
|
Amongst our 4 Apple computers we have a wonderful old G4 cube. It uses the original Airport card, not the Airport Extreme. We cannot find the Linksys router with it by the wireless method, but it works fine with an ethernet connection. The only problem is that leaves the modem in a place far away from where we mostly are, since that is where the cube is!!
So I have 2 questions:
1. Is there a way for the cube to "see" the router?
2. Is it necessary to turn the router off when we will not be online for some time?
Thanks for all the continuing help. Everyone here is always super helpful.

Hi Barbara...
your cube should have no difficulty seeing linkys wirelessly, as mine does. are you certain the airport card in cube is working? do you have something else the cube can see wirelessly?
i suppose its possible the linksys is set to only "look" for newer 802.11G clients instead of both 802.11B and G (the cube is a B client), but i would seriously doubt the linksys default setting is G only.
as for whether to leave the router on or not. it doesn't hurt the router to leave it on. it just uses a little power all the while its plugged in. i have 4 routers on in my house for various reasons, and they stay on all the time. |

If it's a wireless signal strength issue, you might consider a high power Ethernet converter. The Cube connects to the Ethernet converter via a short Ethernet cable, and the Ethernet converter communicates wirelessly with your EVDO router.
