I'm certain this is a very poor way to make an entrance, but in my first post, a mild complaint is in order.

You are charging people $75 to get the Verizon VZAccess software for MacOS... -Though I know the above purchases come with "support" from you guys, this is actually somewhat unscrupulous since the software is available for free to anyone with a verizon account (or more accurately, anyone who knows a verizon phone number).

Considering the countless scams and scammers running around in the wireless market, the above observation looks quite damaging to your reputation.
It took one simple call to Verizon tech support to get the above URI for the MacOS download. Truth be told, I don't even run MacOS 10, so it is certainly possible that I'm missing something obvious and deserve to be beaten with a clue stick.
The only reason why I went looking for the macos version of VZAccess (as well as the default Apple released dirivers) is for reverse engineering purposes. Though we have managed to get the "modem port" on many of the EVDO cards basically working in the free unix(like) operating systems, the drivers, features and performance leave a lot to be desired. As far as I know, no one has gotten the second "Control Port" working properly on dual port cards like the KPC650, let alone figure out how to use it. I hope to correct these problems...

I do appreciate these forums and when I finish reading up on attenuation, I'll buy my antennas and possibly amps from you guys. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute something useful around here...
Unfortunately, I'm not sure in what category to place useful hacks? Though I tried seaching this forum, it seems no one here has found the "secret" throughput monitor built into the VZAccess software. It is disabled by default by one of the configuration files but easy to enable.
1.) Close the VZAccess software.
2.) Load the following file in your favorite text editor.
C:\Program Files\Verizon Wireless\VZAccess Manager\System\Menu.ini
3.) Change this line:
ThroughputPage=0
To read this:
ThroughputPage=1
Now restart VZAccess and click the menu sequence Options->Statistics and you will see a new tab with the throughput monitor.
You might want to put the above config modification in a sticky someplace. Like similar tools, it is very useful for doing real world bandwidth testing. Why people waste their time on the horribly inaccurate web based nonsense like dslreports, toast.net and others is a real mystery.
Kind Regards,
JCR
p.s. If anyone knows where to get complete technical specifications for the Kyocera KPC650, I'd really like know. |

We don't sell VZAccess software because it is free. We sell support, which isn't. It is mostly a service to those that didn't purchase from us and are stuck and Verizon is unable to solve their problem (FYI, for those that purchased from us, they get support for free). Our support guys are top notch and we have helped many people when Verizon (or Sprint) couldn't.
Tip #1, use Google, search for VZAccess and the first listing will get you the same software.
With that said...
Welcome to EVDOforums and thanks for your previous and continued contributions! _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Michael, thank you for the polite response to a somewhat pointed question. You answer makes sense and I didn't realize it was "Apple Support" that you are selling. I'm gald someone is offering Apple support but it's sad to see the lack of Apple support from actual the service providers.
As for additional stuff, this should be helpful...

The problem is I've got no clue where such info should be placed, here on EVDoforums.com or as a comment on EVDOinfo.com or where-ever?
I'm a newbie here so please drop kick me in the right direction. |
