I am one happy puppy!!! I have had the PC5740 air card from Alltel since May. For the first few months I was happy enough just surfing along with my little card. Then, about a month ago, with much fanfare and excitement I received my brand spanking new Dell laptop!!

I was about to bust as I opened everything and plugged it in and got all the software up and running and then went to slip my little PCMCIA type 2 card into my new pride and joy so I could go online and complete the rather lengthy process of turning on a new laptop. I shoved it into the slot and nearly broke it as I couldn't figure out what the heck was blocking it! No matter how hard I pushed it wouldn't go all the way in!!! Oh no!!!(Surely I'm not the only one on the planet who had never gotten the announcement that Dell had up and decided to change to something called an express card!! Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Dell support . . . . . (Straight from India! Reminds me to chase after my dream of moving to India and getting me a job in telephone customer service because it must certainly be a worldwide thing - not just in the USA - where there's no requirement to actually be able to understand and speak the local language!)

Anyway, the "support" was very simple . . . "You must go buy an adapter. They sell them at Wal-Mart." Apparently in other parts of the world they truly believe Wal-Mart to be the real source of American life!

As many of you may know, the "adapter" is NOT available at Wal-Mart or anywhere else easily accessible in America. It must be ordered and it cost well over $200. Didn't make a lot of sense to buy an additional peripheral to tote everywhere with my "portable" laptop. Not to mention the $235 price tag didn't make a lot of sense to add to a $900 laptop!!

Bless the good folks here at the EVDO forum!!! Two days ago I discovered this site and the Booster-antenna sister site and then the Kyocera KR-1 Mobile Router!!! Right out of the box I set it up, plugging in my PC5740 card (after dusting it off! It's been in a drawer for a month or so while I continued to pay for it - you know - can you spell "2 year contract?") and set up the router. IT WORKS!!!! OH MY GOOD LORD JESUS - IT WORKS!!!!

In the meantime I've been having to tether my Treo 650 and, if I'm lucky enough to stay on for over 3 minutes, it would smoke along around 80kbps whether I wanted it to or not.

But now my dear friends - according to multiple test sites at dslreports.com - I am truly smoking along at between 350 - 450 kbps!!!!!! Woo Wee little dawgies!!!!! Heavens to mergatroid!!!

Thank you so much Booster-Antenna!!! Woo wee little dawgies!!!!!!

Oh, and did I happen to mention . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

By the way . . . . I am in the Kingsland, Ga. area (SE GA. right on the Florida line on the coast) and was told by a trusty Alltel rep last night that Alltel has rolled out EVDO here. (Same rep told me the Treo 650 was EVDO capable - he knew so because he had one and it showed "ev" on the screen! Not sure he even knew what a Treo 650 is???)

Anyway, how can I tell? Are the speeds I'm getting EVDO or 1xrtt? I haven't a clue. Never tested my speed before.
