Hello,
I recently just got an S720 and I'm dual booting the laptop that I'm on with Windows XP and Fedora Core 6. I'm a novice, to say the least, at using Linux and was reading some of the other posts about getting some of the other model cards working.
When I plug my card in and run the cat /proc/hub/usb/devices command this is what comes up:

I do not see the same results I was expecting, which should have shown my card's information, should it have not? How can I tell if the system is even recognizing the card as a USB device.
Also, how do I go about getting it connected to the internet? I'm sure once I get this problem solved I may be able to use the other walkthroughs to get up and running but any suggestions or being pointed to a complete walkthrough would be fantastic. I've scoured the internet for a day now and can't seem to find much help, besides references to other walkthroughs with no links and I can't find those walkthroughs.

I have some pretty extensive mods with this card and its sibling, the EX620. You can find my post about soldering a new connector on the motherboard etc. Anyways, that part of the output tells me the device is recognized and is being seen by Fedora OK.
Vendor=1410 ProdID=1130
That is the information you need to point the driver in the right place to use it as a modem.
You need to add the following line to the rc.d file so the modem is probed and initialized properly:

That should create a /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1
You use kPPP or equivalent to make a new connection. The phone number is #777 the username is yournumber@vzw3g.com and the password is vzw
Point the modem to the /dev/ttyUSB0 and that should be it! Any problems drop me a line I've set up many computers like this with Fedora 6, Slackware and others. Good luck! |

| Thanks, Hp_EVDO! I've had EVDO for a couple of months now, and I've always dual-booted my laptop. After several Google searches, I came across this post, and I tried it out. Works like a charm on Fedora 7! I'm so glad I can connect with EVDO from within Linux now. Now I may not boot Windows hardly ever on this laptop. Thanks again! |
