HELP! Ping (latency) times too high.

I'm using the Sprint EVDO network for access and have the Pantech PX500 Rev A card but Rev A hasn’t been turned on in Buena Park (Los Angeles) CA.

My upload and download times have been ok with signal strength between -71dBm to -83dBm but I think I can do better if my ping (latency) times were lower. I have downloaded and ran TCP Optimizer 2.0.3 which helped my speeds but latency times have always been consistently high and I'm looking for suggestions to lower those times. I'm using a 2005 Toshiba-XP(SP2)-1gb RAM and no spyware or viruses. Here are my numbers:

I too am having a high latency issue, since I've gotten the card. Even after running the TCP Optimizer that I found in the Performance Tip post. My download speeds did increase slightly but my latency is still ranging from 300-700ms with an average of about 400-500ms. I've noticed that I cannot send out ping packets above 995 (I kept increasing the packet size until they timed out).

I only seem to have this problem with my Merlin S720 card. If I'm connected to my home network (when I'm there) I have no problems with latency, in fact it's consistently below 60ms and I'm able to send larger ping packets.

Any suggestions on improving this would be appreciated. I'm running a Compaq Presario M2000 that was just recently formatted and Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

200-400ms ping times aren't unreasonable. Those wonderful ping times (40-60ms) you've experienced are on terrestrial (land-based) services such as cable or DSL.
