Michigan Ave. coverage question

I need a bit of information that I think I have seen covered here, but I can't find it.

My husband is at a conference in Chicago at the Marriott downtown, 500 North Michigan Avenue. He has his new Linksys 3G router, his S720 card, and his powerbook. He also has his extra antenna. All of this (and he hasn't needed the antenna) has worked here in Minneapolis without a hitch. But he has found over the last two days that he can get only what he wrote me is "middle of dial-up" speeds using his setup in his room. He has moved it all around, in every position, with and without the extra antenna. He has had to find the "perfect" spot to use his Sprint phone also, but he has found that.

He has switched over to use the hotel's service, but I cannot believe that this is the only solution. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I can't be more specific with his exact speed, but he is unavailable for the rest of the day, as far as I know, but I do know he is downloading VERY slowly.
